The rattle can be present on the normal or extended tank, size doesn’t matter.
My Feb 2020 delivered C2S has the smaller tank (extended was not an option at the time) and developed the rattle after a year and was only noticeable when > 1/2 full tank. It drove me crazy for most of another year until it was found on this forum and I finally took it to the dealer with a full tank of gas,.
Given this, I would get the extended tank for the option of filling up less often.
Now if I can get rid of the engine drone at approx 1600 rpm that would make my day.
Current plan is to just move to a 992.2 and discover the next annoying set of challenges. But that’s half the fun.
No rattles on my 24 model. Reason I got it is because if I drive to neighboring states in New England, they don't carry 93 octane (91 only in New Hampshire). I figure why worry about gas fill ups when doing the next weekend trip to Mt Washington with PCA. I also plan to keep the car a long time, who knows if in the future gas will be harder to come by.
I was aware of possible issues with the large tank. So I ordered the standard tank on both my Gt3 and GTS. I just got the GTS a few months ago so it doesn’t have any miles on it to speak of. I have 6000 miles on the Gt3 I chased the tank rattle which I didn’t realize it was the tank because a lot of the noise was coming from the dashboard ,for over a year. I tried everything loosened the tank from the bottom, put extra rubber padding in between the tank and body tried to shim the tank within the body . Helped a little but didn’t relieve the noise. Finally another Form member who I was talking to that was also experiencing the issue came up with the idea of using air bladder bags around the perimeter of the tank .You can do it from under the hood takes 15 minutes And cost $15. It drove me nuts for almost 2 years. Finally I fixed it. The reason I didn’t want the dealer to do it is it’s pretty big job removing the fuel tank they have to drop to suspension and a lot of other things that are potential problems down the road . Plus the thicker foam pads they put in eventually compressed and you have the same problem again .My philosophy always is “the less time a car spends at a dealership the better the ownership experience will be “

How did you get access to the tank from under the hood? Is it as simple as removing the carpeting? Was there a video or something you followed?

everything is done from the top.
The only thing you need to remove is the air pump 3-10 mm nuts and the plastic cover.
Then just position the the airbags around the perimeter of the tank and pump them up.
You can move them around if you need to and you can take them out very very simple ..
compared to all the time I spent laying on my back trying to fix the tank from underneath

Awesome thx for the instructions and pics. Maybe a stupid question, but I'm guessing don't need to worry about things melting or getting in the way of other moving parts?

there are no moving parts and temperature isn’t a problem. No issues
Just adding my expericece here. Neither my departed 2012 C2S (23k miles) sunroof coupe nor my 2024 C2S (4k miles) cabriolet have had any problems with the 23 gal tank. Ocassionally at some gas stations it underfills (1/8 tank or so) but thats likely calibration due to improper of the filler.
Thx. I would agree on warranty. But i've read a few post where folks had issues with the dealers getting rattles fixed. Let's face it, we all hate rattles. Having said that most of the post on the rattle were on 2020-2022 models, so wasn't sure if it was even still a issue for 2023+

I have the extended range and the rattle. Ive been battling the rattle since I got it. Dealers can't really fix it and Porsche just looks the other way tbh. I don't know if the 2023/24 models have it, having said that.. the car feels heavy when the tank is full and what I do now is just fill up to the half point to avoid the rattle and car feels lighter and better. I would never order that tank again.
Zero rattles, love the range, fill 'er up and drive forever. The #1 reason I ordered it is to prevent having to buy super expensive fuel at race tracks while tracking my 992T. 12K+ miles so far and not a single problem.
I have the extended tank in my 2023 C2S and would recommend it. I have not had any rattle issues and this is my daily car year round. I especially like the 600+ mile range on long trips which I do several times a year. I just need to find an extended range bladder now.
