Default What is that on the screen?

I feel very dumb and old asking this question. I swear I actually looked in a bunch of places before asking here because I feel it is going to be obvious but... What is that thing covered in tape on the pcm screen?

I never noticed, but I'm guessing an ambient light sensor.

First and foremost the factory screen protector is still affixed to your PCM. It is easily removable if you so desire.

Funny, I left mine on as it doesn't seem to change the functionality and it helps with my obsessive cleaning disorder.

I better not take a picture of my work desk and put it here then, you might die
I am kind of a slob tbh
BTW that doesn't feel that easy to pull or necessary.
I am just wondering about the circular thing behind the tape, not the tape itself
So far best guess is ambient light censor by Ray

It's a whole lot easier to clean the actual glass than that plastic. Take it off, put a decent micro-fibre cloth in your glovebox, and every few days give the glass (it is glass, not plastic) a wipe. Finger marks etc. come right off.

Could be a variety of sensors, light/motion/temp. Can test if its the light sensor. Cover it during the day and see if all the gauges dim. Now I'm disturbed AND curious enough that I have to figure this out. thanks.

Mkay so after some digging I found this reddit thread where a guy says he asked the dealer and was told it was some sort of passenger sensor for the airbag and other stuff
https://www.reddit.com/r/porsche911/...device_facing/

Not sure about it but he already discarded it being a motion or light sensor by taping it.

Guys, I'm pretty sure the thing you see there is just a grip/handle to pull of the plastic screen cover. It's not a sensor. I left mine on for several month at my SA's recommendation. I eventually pulled it off and it was very satisfying.

Funny. Had been bothering me. Just today I tugged and realized it is the tab to pull off the plastic from the glass screen. Did look like a camera or sensor though!

I actually put a screen saver on mine. My wife gets a little aggressive hitting the Waze screen when she see police speed traps.
