Targa keeps the roof lines better of the coupe then the convertible obviously... I have never wanted a convertible in my life but I absolutely love the look of the Targa and ended up going with that after my GTS Coupe.
Can't go wrong with either but a GTS Targa is more rare than a GT3 / Touring....
Lowdown, what wheels are those on your Targa4GTS -- those currently aren't options on the Configurator (US version)?
I'm pretty sure the 'vert has a slightly larger hump but for me it works--like @tourenwagen above, I love it. It's obviously a matter of personal preference and taste, but I think the Targa just looks too big--the massive rear pillar makes the whole car look too big.
Wow! That is a great way to see the comparison. But I definitely do not think it is the same. There is a very distinct difference. You are right that the Targa glass eats into the frame, but where it eats into the frame is the top of the hump.
Ah yes I see where you are getting at. Different in the sense that there is more body panel surfacing around there, giving the illusion of a more bulbous rear. But overall shaping/silhouette of the rears remains the same (targa glass occupies the same spacial area).
It's the same. The targa glass+frame eats into the engine body panel, hump remains the same size.
This is a great way to see the difference. Note the difference in wheel well space as the suspension set up is higher with the Targa. I like both but since I had targa's in the '70's & 80's and coupes after that, I needed to get a cab.
Ya totally. When getting screengrabs I even added the +10 mil PASM opt to the cab to bring it up to the same height. I don't think the configurator reflects it at all.
Targa and Cabrio share body panels and platform -- the GIF above shows this pretty clearly, but the deck lid panel is indeed different. Personally, I think that the 991 and 992 Targas are the prettiest variants of the car. I made the switch and every 911 going forward for me will be a Targa. Love it.
If you have any inclination to put any sized human into the back seat of a Targa, there's no room there. The Targa and Cabrio both have smaller and more vertical backseats than the Coupe. In the Cabrio with the top down, you can fit a human back there. It won't be comfortable, but it's possible. Ingress/Egress for the Targa backseat is awful and when you do manage to wedge yourself back there, your head is hitting the Targa bar or the glass. Fun fact: Since the 991, the roof elements of both the Targa and Cabriolet use magnesium for their roof structures.
I like my sports cars the way I like my women—wide at the back. And I always liked the look of my cab from behind, particularly with the top down. But I know that I’m probably the exception here
