Cars can be replaced. lives not.
I have been in winds over 120 miles an hour. Hurricane Andrew broke the machine that measures the speed in Coral Gables. The sound is a hissing noise and it doesn’t stop. One hears things breaking all around as tiles fly off roofs and things get blown around. I spent those hours in a closet with my first wife and our cat and a mattress over us as we sat still. Although frightening the worst is yet to come. Dealing with the rebuild is awful. People are angry, debris is everywhere, traffic lights are out and people are driving like maniacs. At that point contractors feel like they won the Powerball. The air of arrogance is surreal and they are making money left and right so they don’t care I never asked or excepted one cent of government assistance to buy repairs. Anyone who thinks they are going to count on the government to build them back is dreaming . Those who are renting or have very little assets as well as those who simply are running short on time might be best off leaving. That’s a decision that many people do in fact make.
