I live in the mountains and deer are everywhere. Just went out to run an errand and 3 deer just missed me in my Audi. Wondering if people who have Night View have experienced something like this, did you get a warning? It seems like it won’t be as good during the day but still work. On the Taycan forum people indicate that it works during the day.
I have that system. You can look at the image from the IR camera but I don't think it will alert during the day (a little warning icon shows up in the camera view), because animals and humans won't stand out / be detectable when everything is warm. Same thing if the ambient temperature at night is too high.
From the Owner's Manual:
Night View Assist detects persons and animals when it is sufficiently dark and at an ambient temperature of under 28 °C.
This is a bit OT (sorry), but I feel that I’m sort of an “expert” at vehicle-animal collisions. In the past 30 years, I have had 13 (yes 13!) vehicle-animal collisions. In addition, I’ve had at least 10 extremely close calls. The most expensive incident was with a raccoon and a BMW (front bumper cover, intercooler, oil cooler - $4500). All the rest were deer. But with every one of those incidents, I cannot see how a night vision device would have made any difference. In every case, the animal either ran into the side of my car, or ran across my path at full gallop. I even had a horny buck run into the side of my car when I was at a dead stop! My brother-in-law once saw a deer at the side of the road so he stopped, and then watched the deer jump onto his hood, his roof, and then his trunk! I don’t see how the night vision device would have allowed me to avoid any of these. If the animals stood near the side of the road and wandered into my path as I approached, then I could see it being effective, but if they sprint across the road, I don’t see it helping me avoid anything. I’d love to see an actual study on how the thing works and if it is really effective. “Deer whistles” were quite popular many years ago (they are still sold); however, everything I’ve read says they are 100% worthless. I’d love to know if night vision actually does anything. I’m sure there are many people who will swear that they are great, because the device detects deer regularly and they stop each time. But that doesn’t prove anything. Just my “expert” opinion…

I have NVA on a 2021 992, and it is currently in the shop again to get it fixed (I've lost count how many times). I keep taking videos showing 1) PCM/NVA screen (its on), 2) the infrared image with yellow "not functioning" icon, 3) the outside temp, and 4) outside shot of a dark, empty road. Latest video was a country road at 77F with the unit not working. My camera, camera controller, and ZFAS have all been replaced with no effect. Since the NVA screen is hidden behind the steering wheel, I don't really know the percentage of time the icon is off, but I've NEVER seen the impressive "collision alert " despite pedestrians/animals being in front of the vehicle.

Wow, that is a string of bad luck and yeah if an animal dashes across the road NVA isn't gonna help. NVA has alerted me when pedestrians in dark clothing are walking along the side of the road, and I found that somewhat helpful.
The other thing the NVA display can help spot is cop cars idling by the side of the road

I've only had the 992 since July and it's still summer in the north. So, not a whole lot of night driving with the NV. A week or so ago I did see a deer jump out of the woods right in front of us just before the NV hit red alert. Plenty of time and brakes to stop.
Effective? I'l know better when the October drive home is dark during the rut. If not effective, it is at least entertaining. NV really lights up the basements of my neighbors growing certain cash crops.
