992 vs Tesla Model 3 Performance test from carwow
Having gone from 125,000 miles in a Model S to a 992 C2, the Porsche is far more exciting. I don't think this would be news to anyone though. I think the same applies comparing the 992 to the Model 3 performance as well. It is more than just the acceleration. If it wasn't, the Festival of Speed , Sema, the classic car movement, an everything else we like wouldn't exist.
The TeslaS are excellent, dont get me wrong. I am a big fan. They are so easy to drive quickly, the driver is almost redundant. Like a drone. Thats probably where the 911 scores, driver involvement.
The 992 is also cool
I get maximum respect from SUV drivers, chavs and sports car drivers. They all want to have a look. They just know the 911 is the daddy. I think some of that is because the car is quite aggressive in its styling with huge wheels, 19 inch at the front and 20 inch at the back. Why you would want 20/21s is beyond me for road use. Many still do not appreciate what an MS or M3 is. Much of that is because they were designed to blend in not be radical.
How does it compare to a Model S?
More fun, quicker, cooler, smaller! And the range of course.
Evs are so yesterday now. Dont believe me? Try getting to Nice on the AutoRoute now with all the Model 3 owners taking up the charging points. I had 5 years of bliss in the MS. Those days have gone. I guess they might come back in a few years.
So my advice to anyone thinking of a 992 is-buy the cheapest one possible. It is absolutely loaded and you will nor be disappointed.
Buy it before it gets legislated off the road.
If you dont, you will never be able to tell your grandchildren how you once owned one of the greatest cars ever made.
The 992 is also exceptionally sexy (for a car).

I like the Tesla, but for the following reasons I got the 992:
- Gas cars will be phased out eventually, why switch to EV now?
- I need MT in my cars (driver involvement)
- Handling (3400 lbs vs 4100 lbs)
- Sound! (My friend went from BMW M3 to Model 3P and misses the sound)
- Looks (Model 3 is ok, but it's a bit soap bar esque)
- Ability to thrash the car up a mountain road and not worry about brake fade, or range anxiety
- Range, one tank of gas gets you almost double the range on a road trip
- Interior
- General build quality
A friend of mine who had an M3 put it like this "The model 3 is a great commuter car, but it's not fun like my M3, I miss the sound and I don't enjoy thrashing the Tesla like I did the BMW".
I hate carwow. They are very clickbaity. Steve Suttfcliff and Chris Harris are proper car guys. I wish the pair would team up and just do tons of vids. Top Gears lead presenter is a bit wet too.

No one has launched a new car company from scratch like Tesla have and it's incredibly impressive how they've done it. Reminds me of the dark ages of Apple, when they were barely surviving and loyal customers felt like they were part of a small club keeping the brand alive. Tesla inspires that same kind of thing. But the company needs alot of growing up to do and some of the customer service issues with repair delays has frightened me off getting one as a commuter.
When I test drove and ordered my 992 I was unimpressed with the torque but nearly everything else was far more satisfying. I’m readily looking forward to delivery of my 992 for the occasion of driving - but will keep a battery car (hopefully a SUV when a high quality one is available) for making toast daily.
(and I’ll happily eat these words if/when I realize I want to just drive the 992 as my only car).

I mostly ignored it as I have no interest in street racing.
But the best part was when we were both driving through an underpass, and I did a second gear pull to 9K RPMs to hear that glorious Italian NA V8 scream.
Ask me how much I cared in that moment whose car was faster.

Electric cars are no doubt impressive. I'm sure I'll get one as a get around appliance one day, but keeping the special ICE cars for life.

The 3 is great for what it does, plain old long distant commuting. The 911 a totally different car. I thought my 991 was a great commuting car until I got the Model 3 (non performance). After one year and 12k miles I can tell you there’s no comparison. The 3 is a way better commuting car above a 30min drive. The 911 is a hoot but you really can’t beat autopilot on those long commutes. I do the Orange County to LA trip every other weekend for the last six months. I take the 3 every time except last weekend. And I wished I took the 3.
Regarding the 0-60, the 3 is super consistent on the street regardless of conditions. I’ve used the Draggy multiple times and my 3 (long range non perf AWD) beat my 991.1S w power kit 9/10 times on the street. The 911 times varied widely based on temperature and conditions.
Having said that nothing beats the 911 when it comes to styling and emotional excitement. But the days when the 911 can beat almost any car at the stoplight is over with the arrival of these EVs.
