My take: I owned a 991.2 C4 and recently test drove a 992 C4S (no base cars on the lot). For me it would be the 992 even in base form. It is quieter inside, more comfortable and has sharper handling. Its got a bit more room and I just love the new interior. The Bose sound system is useful now that it can be heard above what was once, but now significantly reduced tire roar. I got a C4 because I wanted the wide body but now all 992s come with that body style, so I'm considering a C2.

These are brilliant cars in any form. If you are budget limited and just want to go fast, get a 991.2 C4S. If you want an even more usable daily drive, its a 992 all day long - form my perspective.

I agree. I was going to pull the trigger on a new, discounted 991.2 C4S but after driving the 992, and reading the forums and the hearing about the experiences of others, I knew that I'd have regrets on day 1 if I didn't get a 992. YOLO!

Post this same question in the 991 sub forum and see what responses you get. But you didn’t post this in the 991 forum because you don’t want those responses....get the 992 dude. Enjoy!

I own a 991.2 C2S with SPASM. Have driven the 992 a bunch. Other than the nice exhaust sound in the 992 I would not give up vacations. This is an easy choice for me. I have no desire to have a 992. Oh forgot I did really enjoy the new 14way, more comfy than mine.
My 911 is a weekend ride with friends car. Guess if It was daily I might consider 992 but man that is a lot more money. I wasn’t stretching when I go my car. Guess I’ll have to go read your thread on the 991 group.

It's mostly come down to whether or not I feel I need AWD. The $8k to go up to a C4 puts it out of my price range (and I'd probably want the 4S to counteract the added weight) hence why saving money and getting AWD has appeal.

I'd much prefer to get the 992 and spec it the way I want, probably worth the 15-20k to me. But if I decide on AWD I'll have to go 991.2.

The other complicating factor is I'll have to make the decision in the next week or two for my deposit but it's full blown cold/rain/upcoming snow here so I can't really test drive a 991.2 4S.

Here in Canada, there isn't much of a discount on 2019 991.2 C4Ss, so situation may be different where you live. Even the Porsche-supplied 0-60 numbers (yes, just one performance metric) are the same for the 991.2 C4s and the 992 C4, so if 991.2 C4S performance is OK for you 992 base C4 should be as well; no "need" to go the the 992 C4s. At the end of the day, getting what we wanted in a moderately optioned 992 C4 (AWD is almost a must-have in a 365 DD where we live) for less than a 991.2 with options we didn't want made the most sense. That we like the 992 interior much more than the 991.2 - and 992 exterior somewhat more - sealed the deal for us.

Something else to consider in your analysis is maintenance cost and tires. At 20k miles/year you’ll be doing two oil changes per year, replacing least one set of tires per year (with my driving style it would be two!!!) and doing the recommended other service items per Porsche’s schedule. If you’re pushing the budget, you might consider the used ‘17 which will allow more budget for these running costs. I consider the Porsche running cost to be low when compared to some of other sports car brands I’ve researched but it can get more costly with the mileage you plan to drive. Regardless, you’ll be thrilled either decision. I smile every time I drive my ‘17 CS4.

I can get a CPO '17 C4S, sub 15k miles, fully optioned (and I mean fully), for 100-105k here.

I'm at $117 for a 992 C2 with some less options or $124k for a 992 C4.

And very true, blraider. That's exactly why I've put a hard cap on my budget.

Not sure what options the ‘17 has but I got my ‘17 CPO C4S with 11,000 miles for $102,000 last March. Has RWS, PSE, Sport Chrono, upgraded headlights (can’t remember the name), Bose, PDK. Doesn’t have PDDC or PCCBs. The only option I wish it had was full leather. Point is that you may be able to do better on price. Happy hunting!

Well, the weather was unexpectedly decent today so I went and drove a 991.2 4S. Very surprising!!

I am very surprised how much more I like the 992. I almost like the 991.2 interior as much but the driving experience was night & day to me. The 992 in normal with PASM on comfort felt almost like a luxury car; the 991.2 had a lot of wind noise and a much harsher ride. The 991.2 sound was not nearly as good for me and the drive was more mechanical.

I definitely get why people would prefer the 991.2. It feels more old school, both aesthetically & driving wise. The 992 felt much more refined, for better or worse. I personally enjoy the more refined feel.

I also think the 992 2S I drove felt more engaging than the 992 4S or the 991.2 4S.
