Rear Axle Steering?

Rear Axle Steering?
Anyone tried the 992 with/without RAS back to back? Does the RAS make the car feel heavier or unnatural? For perspective I tend to be quite sensitive to mechanical differences, favoring the S over the 4S as I don’t like the feeling of heaviness you get from the front or the 4S. Would I feel that heaviness from the back of an RAS fitted S car or just the benefit of better dynamics?

From the reviews I’ve read, it’s a “must have” for handling. In terms of weight, I don’t think it adds that much weight, I’m thinking 15 Kg, but not sure.
Regardless, it has to be significantly less than the weight added by an extra drive shaft, two additional differentials, and a transaxle, that would make up a 4wd system.
I’m sure any added weight would be more than offset by the improved handling.
I've ordered it on my C2S, along with the “Sport Package”. I’m trying to Spec mine as close as possible to a GTS.

IIRC the whole RAS system on the 991.2 weighs 13kg, 7Kg for the system itself and an additional 6Kg for the RAS's separate battery pack fitted at the back of the car..The 992's system is similar except that the RAS's battery pack is now Lithium-ion and only weighs about 3Kg..This translates to a total weight for the 992's RAS to only 10Kg...I never specced it on my 992 which i've now sold back to my dealer however i will spec it on my next one as it really makes a difference on track.

Again: the RWS does NOT have an additional battery. Neither in the 991 nor the 992 or any other Porsche for that matter. That is just wrong. Wherever you got that information from it is simply not correct.

FWIW sometimes in my .2 GTS I feel like the RWS is overly sensitive and can send the rear end fishing around when driving aggressively. I've felt this same behavior in a Ferrari F12. In certain modes it cleans up it's act.

This is not directly answering your question but I do not have RAS on my 991.1 GTS (was not an option at the time) and I do have it as standard on my GT3T. It is a game-changer. The turn-in with the car is so much more razor sharp. It really does make the car feel smaller because the turn-in is so precise. My GTS feels like a luxury sedan in comparison to the GT3T when it comes to many things, RAS being one of them. I would spec it on your 992.

On balance i'll get RAS on my next 992(hopefully Manual) along with the -10mm sport PASM..Its a desirable 'nice to have' on the 992 compared to an essential 'must have' on the 991.2.
I'm phoning my dealer today to get clarification on the battery differences on the RAS 991.2 and 992 and will report back tonight hopefully with some 100% concrete info.

I owned a RAS equipped 991.2GTS after testing both with and without at the PEC..It is truly transformative on the 991.2 with no real drawbacks..The non RAS 991.2 feels like a boat in comparison..I have also just sold my non RAS 992 and the benefits of RAS on this model is much less obvious compared to the 991.2..I attribute this to the new much improved platform with 11% faster steering rack on the non RAS car..However after driving a 992 with RAS at the OPC a month ago the benefits when driving the 992 at 100% became obvious again..One caveat is i never got to drive a non RAS at the PEC to compare both cars in a track environment..

The interior choice gives me more of a headache...picked island green / black but would love to see it in person before lock date (soon)

I too am thinking the same....I had on 991.2 GTS then not on T but now have it on GT3. I have ordered 992 with RAS but do keep wondering if I need it or not. Not sure if I drove both options back to back I would tell much difference. Saying that, I think I will keep it ticked.
