Default MT on base 992 911

Hi all, I’ve been trying to place a deposit for a base 992 which is slated to start production in Nov 2019, one of my requirements is manual transmission, however my dealership told me, according to the Product Management and Planning Manager at Porsche Cars Canada with the below response:

Hi xxxxx.

The MT is not likely to ever come on the base Carrera models. We are just expecting it on S/4S and up for this generation”

🤔😱

any thoughts fellow rennlisters?

Pure speculation on my part, but perhaps Porsche crunched the numbers and found that so few 991 base MT cars were produced/ordered that it was not worth the hassle to produce them. Again, just speculation on my part. The MT niche is a small one and is primarily found in the USA with the GT crowd, not with your average Porsche Carrera driver (most of whom cannot drive a stick anyway). Porsche wants to streamline production as much as possible - for instance, the narrow body is no longer available in the Carrera either. That used to be standard in the base and S models but now all Carreras get the big booty which is a shame. I personally liked the narrow body look (even though I gave up my narrow body 3.4 L cab for the wide body 3.8 GTS). Will be interesting to see if your dealership is correct in its prognostication.

If they release a Carrera T following the 991 formula of building on the base car, it seems reasonable to expect that it would have a manual transmission option.

There was an unsubstantiated rumor that the manual was ONLY coming to the base models - so at this point I think we just have to wait and see what we get.

I find that extremely hard to believe. I suspect that your dealer is just trying to scare you into buying an S/4S now. My dealer said that he has a long list of people who have placed deposits on the manual and not that many who ordered a pdk.

I find this hard to believe as well but the dealer claiming this from the Product Management and Planning Manager at Porsche Cars Canada? And this dealer I'm dealing with is owned directly by Porsche Canada......

Unhappy

It seems like every single review I've read or watched has mentioned the C2 and MT would be released at a later date. Presumably, this info came from a Porsche rep. If the OP's info is accurate, this is very disappointing . . .

I've suspected this type of BS for awhile. See my thread from 3/10 entitled 992 MT. I'll believe it when I see it.

My sales manager said to expect a manual in every 992 911 model except the GT2 and GT3RS and that there is zero reason to think otherwise.

I'm sure he is confused. Porsche stated from the beginning that it would be first available on Base cars starting production in the fall.

I don't get why you couldn't order one from the get go though. Is it a production streamlining issue?

No, it's a tactic to sell more expensive cars to people who can't wait. There's only so many cars that the factory can produce so it might as well maximize revenue for each car produced.

It makes sense to get the more popular autos out first until production catches up with demand even if it weren't more financially lucrative. But yeah, it's Porsche, why make money when you can make more money?

I agree this is likely.
The current Turbo doesn't have a manual option either. That is super disappointing. Hey Porsche, 992 Turbo with a manual option, please.
