My concern is that it would be like a SawStop... you get to keep your fingers, which is helpful because you will need them to cut a check for the massive repair bill.
According to the 'AfterSales Training - Servicing & General Repair (Sports Cars)' document, using the parking brake while driving will result in an abrupt emergency braking maneuver. Maybe they changed it for the 992, but I haven't heard anything along those lines.

Have NOT tried it. Was just assuming. On the Macan, it doesn't do anything when the button is activated.

Which makes sense to some extent, because the button is right there on the console where anyone else in the car can reach it, accidentally or otherwise. Likewise, it makes sense that the 9x1 cars have emergency braking functionality since only the driver can reach the switch, and it will never be pressed by accident.
So if they moved the button to the console in the 992 and disabled it with the vehicle in motion, what's the problem with the cupholder, exactly, besides its poor ergonomic effects on the other console controls?
Need to see if we get more independent verification of this, or if it's just another example of DS ("Dealer Stories.")
(Shrug) If this is true, then rest assured that nobody at PCNA or its dealers is laughing. Good luck selling 'sports cars' without a cupholder in the US market. Once the 5 or 6 alpha guys in this thread get their cars, that will be it.
IMHO, the time to laugh was not when Porsche decided that sports cars needed a cupholder, it was when they decided that sports cars didn't need a handbrake.
This is exactly why the 911 has turned into a 2 door Panamera. It is no longer a sports car. Thanks.

This is great news. If I’m the only one in America who thinks a car without a cup holder is a plus, l’ll be able to get one hell of a discount as all these unwanted cars pile up at the dealerships.

I doubt you're the only one in America, but I see tons of 911s in my office parking garage, so there are certainly buyers out there that daily drive these. I'm sure some of them may want a cup of coffee or bottle of water with them on their drive occasionally.
This is percicely why the older 911 models are more desirable ...besides the cup holder I love my 997 because it does not have TPMS ......I hate those damn things always ding donging for no reason ... (*)(*)
