Info about new factory Paint Protection Film
I’m wondering how will it be installed: will the factory extend the film to roll-in the edges? Or, will the edges show?
If anyone has info about how Porsche intents to install it, much appreciated.
Has anyone received their 992 with the new Paint Protection Film (PPF) from the factory?
Although Porsche is charging a bit more than you can get locally, it is not that extremely high. For people planning to do a European (factory) delivery, this might be an option to consider.
It removes the hassle to try to do it with one of the nearby independent installers and deal with the logistics of arranging and scheduling for it before driving off to the planned adventure.
I'm doing a European delivery and need to decide soon if I should add it. Not knowing how is the install, it is keeping me from adding it to the build.
Since it is a new option, I know there might not be yet samples available. So hoping someone has either seeing it or knows\heard\read somewhere how they will do it.
Thanks!

interesting option, and usually those films should be put on after paint has 30 days, but for ED this is a great thing, ED cars are built well before delivery. I suspect this film will be added afterwards at the same part of the factory where they add exclusive parts or where they did the GT3 engine swaps (not part of the factory tour), I thin its a must for ED delivery and if you are unhappy just replace at home. I added some Xpel into my door cups at my hotel to protect car on the journey home

Yes it's done by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. They do work on the cars after normal assembly. Shmee150 has a video showing Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur option installation on his GT3 at the factory, to give you a sense of what it's like:

It’ll be interesting to see this executed as there are many moving pieces in a full vehicle ppf installation. For one, many pieces such as door handles, mirrors, roof gasket, emblems, etc. will need to be removed and reinstalled.
This is all assuming the paint has been properly polished and prepped, which at moment, leaves much to be desired from the factory due to the increase in production.
Porsche is definitely not about to make a move that isn’t consistent with their brand and quality, but this one is honestly a head-scratcher for me as time is $$$...and the amount of money they can make in a short time in exclusive department would trump the money they’re making on doing a proper ppf installation.

It seems like they have lots of demand for PPF but only 2 bays in the Exclusive Manufaktr area where it is fitted. My car is delayed up to 6 weeks waiting for this so I've asked them to skip it as I can get it done by Topaz to a higher standard when its in the UK. Waiting for a reply....

It is odd that they don't provide more guidance on this. Is it just the front? Full front? Partial front? It's expensive for just the front, but too "cheap" to be the whole car.
Lots of quality control issues can arise, which you'd expect Porsche to have thought out. But with lack of details, and apparently short supply of space/staff to do it resulting in delays, who knows. Will customers get cars and see that the paint underneath wasn't treated properly? Damage to cars at ports often occurs which brands have hoisted up specific body shops designated to fix. If something happens to a car with the PPF, the PPF would be damaged therefore it would have to be reapplied. Has Porsche trained those who will have to do it, to be able to do it at top level?
Knowing that PPF is such a huge topic in the 911 world (I always resisted PPF but realize that with a 911, you just can't escape needing it), you'd think Porsche would provide more detail on how the process works.

Had to figure out what "luggage compartment lid" meant for a second, until I realized they're talking about the "hood."

It boils down to the person doing it:
If Hans believes in attention to detail - you will get a good job
If Franz has had too much beer - it will be sloppy
If Porsche quality checks do their job - you will be fine either way.

I wouldn't buy the Porsche film for the following reason:
The stone guard PPF that comes on the 991 is really prone to yellow. I have had mine replaced every 2 years under warranty because they go yellow. My XPEL Ultimate film doesn't have that issue.

This question was asked 15 months ago, and the thread died. Has anyone ordered from the factory the ASV paint protection on your Porsche? Pleased or not?
I have an upcoming build, and would like to utilize this specification, but with knowledge If worthwhile.
thank you

Porsche offering PPF at the factory is evidence that the commoditization of the product/service is gaining steam. Practically, if guys in a bay anywhere in the world with a bit of experience and the right tools can do it well, so can a manufacturer. The question will quickly become whether an owner feels more comfortable having it done at the factory or after delivery. If one lives in an area where there are few or no capable installers, then factory PPF makes sense. If one lives in an urban area where there are multiple shops capable of doing a good job, that's an option for those folks.

After seeing my car with clear coat defects from the factory. I wouldn’t opt for factory PPF unless you were doing a euro delivery. Good chance the paint won’t be 100% corrected even with the factory (3rd party) applying the film.
