Does anyone else hate it? There are some who have made their forum careers hating it creatively and colorfully. It ranks up there with the third brake light and the door handles for generic and specialized derision.
It seems to have passed its peak as a spectator sport. The vast majority of road testers and new owners who have actually experienced the car have been distracted by various performance advances over previous 911s, and have focused on that.

From one Dark Knight to another, it really is a non issue once you’ve sat in the car. Must admit I did like shifting up/down especially on turns where it probably wasn’t even necessary to shift!

so it can be used to shift properly? when turning hard, its sometimes difficult to access the paddles and thats why still having a center console shifter is important

I doubt it. Will be doing my test derive tomorrow so will report back on how it compares to the 991.2 PDK manual shifts mid corner.

They're hiding their frustration at someone just a tad too lazy to do any research themselves on the subject.
No, it cannot "manually" control the PDK. It's an electronic switch that selects the direction of travel (R - N - D) and park. You cannot use it to select or hold a gear. That's what your paddles are for.
Does anyone else hate it? Most everyone. Though many have resigned themselves to it and realize the PDK really doesn't need their intervention to operate at peak capability.
Many would also argue that shifting properly involves a 3rd pedal. Manually overriding some pretty spectacular shifting logic isn't "shifting" properly. It's not shifting at all, if you think about it... it's just activating a switch to tell the PDK computer to select and/or hold a gear.
