Haha, thanks for the tip but... I have a 991.2GT3... I am interested in the technology and systems in the car. I test drove the 992 C2S because my car was in the workshop for a short update, and I stayed there and drove some cars. The test drive didn't inspire me to change car at all, no matter the sound. I did however feel the sound in the 992 at some points - not all the time - a bit "synthetic" in a way I recognize from BMW:s, the Mustang and some others - also the Taycan in its "dynamic engine sound mode" or whatever they call it. Therefore I asked in this thread if someone might know. Not all systems and solutions in the cars are presented and highlighted at the press releases or test drives, it creeps out eventually. Maybe someone had heard (hehe) something along these lines. That's all

My Panamera is quiet, but my wife's X5 (with the acoustic glass I spec'd) is even quieter.

I have done a few 3 hr highway runs and not found road noise a problem - I’m pretty sensitive to it too.

I absolutely love the way the 992 literally gobbles up the motorway at speed.

Yes, it is a bit noisier than average. That is one of the reasons I bought it as a daily driver in a fairly sanitised world.

The most amazing thing is the gearing. You accelerate hard to 100 mph, then you think the car is cruising nicely Then you realise you are only in 6th and the car still has 2 gears to go.

That engine pushes out amazing amount of torque between 1,000 and 2,000 revs and 8th speed takes advantage of it. I think at 90mph the engine is only spinning at 1,800 rpm, or something like that. Maybe less.

Another incredible thing I find is the economy. I get 36mpg on a long fast run. It is brilliant for such a quick car.

On the point of engine flexibility, the other day I was following traffic out of town on a very steep hill which rises for about 1 mile to the top.

It is the sort of hill that in the 80's you would struggle in most cars in 2nd gear. As i followed the traffic at 30mph I was surprised to see the PDK had selected 6th at just over 1,000 rpm.

Even more surprising was when the road cleared on the hill, when I accelerated gently up to the top. The car stayed in 6th and just romped up, dismissing the whole gradient as if it didnt exist at all.

Of course If I had booted it it would have dropped a few cogs in an instant.

I dont understand how Mr P got it all so right.

You guys can have extra sound insulation added via DIY or professionally that can further quiet the 992, if that’s the only major concern about the car.

While your signature says Boston, your dialogue (motorway, boot it, cogs, gradient, etc.) suggests British. If so, "36mpg" is presumably based on Imperial gallons which would translate to ~ 30mpg in U.S. Gallons. Still pretty impressive for a "fast run".

On a full tank I get between 400 and 450 miles in the 992.

I think that is excellent for a car of this calibre.

My last car was very quiet. I did 140,000 miles in it- a Tesla Model S. It was a bit yawnsville, although an excellent product.!

I dont give a stuff about it being quiet or not as long as it is fun.

The 992 is far more exciting.
