992 MT
Is anyone else skeptical regarding the release of the 992 with MT, especially in Cabs? I'll believe it when I see it.
Also, in the 991 I don't find the MT very satisfying. Is it possible it's going to be an even worse set-up in 992, even more of an afterthought given the declining take rate? Or will they improve on the 991 MT? Anyone have any insight on this? |
No skepticism by me. I expect it.

It seems your tin foil hat may be a little too snug. |
Could be. My dealer has no order-accepted dates. I'm tired of and gun-shy from the slow strangulation of products. Turbo. GT3. M5. M6. 4 series verts. Pretty much all BMWs now. All the cars I aspired to own are now available only in automatic. I worked all these years and always assumed I'd own some of them, and now if I'm going to get one it's going to be someone else's secondhand machine.
From their point of view I'd understand dropping the option on cabs. What's the take rate going to be on 992 cabs? Maybe 10% if we're lucky? |

Agree! The manual in the Carrera T is an amazing and pure driving experience. |
I think the bigger risk is that the MT is limited to the base C2 and C2 cab. Probably not on this generation, but maybe the 992.2. One problem with manuals is that they are worse for emissions and mpg. Higher hp, bigger engines, and it compounds the problem. Manuals are dying because outside of Porsche and really just the GT3 and Carrera T (and a few others like Miata) the take rate is not high. If you like the T shifter, it is $250 to change any 991 to it. |

Those are the types of numbers that make manufactures take notice. |

I'll give the T a try.

OP: Why don't you find the MT very satisfying? Compared to what? I think the manual in my 991.2 is quite satisfying, and I have owned/driven MTs all my life.

Golf R seems to have a lot of manuals too, but I don’t have a percentage. Even things you think would be a high take rate like challenger are low take rates. The stat I read for all cars for 2018 was 3% down from 30% in 1990. |
