I have had 3 991 Porsches all with PDK. I never drove the cars in Auto. Always in sport mode shifting myself with the stick or the paddles. I drive my 911 daily and enjoy the speed of shifting in the PDK and don't really enjoy driving the car in Auto, ever!!!
If the 992.2 doesn't come with a correction to the nubbin, I will be getting a manual shift 992 or never again.
My local Porsche club voted 30 out of 33 that they didn't care for the nubbin for looks and the fact that you cannot shift with the stick anymore. Hopefully that will change. We don't need to be like Ferrari and McLaren; bring back a stick shifting mode please.
Cheers,

The whole point of the nubbin is that Porsche is probably trying to wean people of it, as plans for hybrid and electric are down the road. Tesla Roadster is coming up, along with Ferrari's electric. Eventually the gears will be gone. I miss the PDK shifter, I really enjoy using the shifter in 991.2. Manual always win, but there are days I am stuck in traffic where PDK wins, and then at times love enjoy shifting the PDK shifter. I truly hope Porsche can bring this option while we have gas powered cars which require gears.

It really does look like an electric shaver though. Could they not have done better on the aesthetics?

Shoulda, coulda, woulda - cat's out of the bag. Too late. Will be interesting to see if it gets modified for the 992.1 and/or for the PDK GT3s. The nubbin is bad enough in the Carreras - in the GT3 (along with the black hole cup holder?!), it would be even more out of place, if that is possible.

Probably because the 918 center console is stunning. The 992 center console is the exact opposite of that

I think I'll reserve judgment until I see it in the flesh. It does look like a shaver, but I find it hard to believe that so many smart engineers and designers working at Porsche would put something in there that looks atrocious.

You have seen the headlights on the 996, right? 😄 The nubbbin is not Porsche’s first time making a design “mistake.” I put mistake in quotes because design is by nature subjective, though there are obviously things that appeal to the majority based on human genetics, experiences, and cultural norms (deep stuff I know). What bothers me more than the nubbin is the rear light strip. My guess is that Porsche will change the nubbin and rear light strip for 992.2. The front with sport design and side exteriors look great to me.

^100%. I'll be forever confused as to why those selected to participate in the initial consumer research didn't speak up more loudly.

Sigh. Because, for the nth time, the 918 is a hybrid.

One can’t really judge the so-called nubbin in isolation. It’s a general design element and theme in the 992, as there are other switches that are the same style, but smaller, including the fake key ****.

True - but it is the queen mother of the nubbins and it sits front and center in the car, like a big, juicy pimple on the tip of someone's nose. Unfortunately, unlike a zit, you can't pop the nubbin and it won't go away.

Hold it gently like a coffee cup, pinky up and all.
Manual shifts, if even possible, will require quite the concentration!

I owned a 996 with the amoeba headlights. I didn't especially like them, but it didn't interfere one iota with my driving/ownership experience. It drove wonderfully, and as a first time Porsche owner at the time, I was thrilled to drive it on a daily basis. I really can't understand why so many are getting their undies in a bunch about such a minor component of the car.
