Tesla quality (or lack thereof in most instances) is not equal to Porsche's quality (consistently top 3 in JD Powers IQS).

I lived in enough New England winters to know that door handles can get frozen to the point where they do not work without thawing. The risk of having a door handle freezing issue is greater with a flush door handle. The ice can cover the entire door handle and/or the ice can fill in the gap around the door handle. It is not a matter of if the door handles will freeze on the 992, it is a matter of when. And yes, it will be a major issue for those poor souls who can't get to work because their car doors won't open in the bitter cold. Been there, done that. That is part of the reason why I am now living in the warm climes of So Cal.

One of the highlights of leaving Rhode Island after six long, cold winters was tossing the windshield ice scraper in the dumpster as I skipped town.

My car will over close the windows when it gets in the single digits, making it impossible to close the doors. (The auto drop window function closes the window to above the trim.) I'll withhold the passing grade on overly complicated marketing driven engineering marvels for a couple of winters.

I think there are some who are over confident in Porsche's reliability and the simple truth is that anytime components increase in complexity so does their likelihood of failure.
It's a legitimate concern and one that spans across everything from active radiator blinds to PASM to PDK to active RWS, active motor mounts etc etc. Bottom line is that all of these items are more prone to failure and Porsche along with just about every other top manufacture is guilty of introducing expensive and complex technology without the responsibility or consideration for long term reliability or repair cost.
Especially where the door handles are concerned, treating these types of virtually useless gimmicks as " the next guys problem" is not only irresponsible but a waste of precious energy and resources as well.

Limegreen - agreed. Long live the classic 911 pull door handle. I will enjoy not having to think twice about opening the door when my GT3T arrives in the next week or so. Plus, to me, the classic door handle styling is more befitting of the 911 lineage.

I can't speak to the Tesla, but as long as we are discussing the 992 door handles, I'd like to hear comments on the sound of the doors closing.
Of course, I realize there aren't any 992s in the U.S. yet, but I doubt the sound of the doors closing on the 992 is going to be vastly different than its recent predecessors. So, I'd like to read the impressions of those who own 991s and what you think of the sound of the doors closing as compared to past 911s. And let me add that I understand that years ago the window glass on the 911 was surrounded by a frame, which makes a huge difference, but nonetheless, what are your impressions of the doors closing? Is the 991.2 an improvement over the 991 such that there's reason to hope the 992 will be better still?

I’ll post a couple in the morning.
There’s a thinner section to the edge of the handle over the front “rod” going into door. The handle cover looks thin plastic to me now I’ve had a closer inspection of it. So it’s disappointing.
