Definitely dont buy 1st yr models. You'll be sorry. 2nd year is a bit iffy.

Contrary to opinions, ppl are not lining up to buy 992.

Huge disappointment on many fronts. "Shaver" **** is reason enough and it will be replaced 2nd or 3rd year for sure.

Yes. Ignorant and indicative of a underlying mindset that is set in the past.

I stay on the wait-list for the 992, don't take as much of a depreciation hit and get some enjoyment over the next 1-2 years while also maintaining some anticipation for the 992. There's still a pang of regret because I really, really wanted that sweet GTS, but on balance I think it's the right move for me.
I did exactly the same thing this past March. I purchased a used 2017 C2S with 3,900 miles. The car had all the options I was looking for but no more. It was a $125,000 MSRP car with PDK, Sport Chrono, Sport Exhaust, RAS, Bose, MultiFunction Sport Steering Wheel and 2-3 other small options. Being the first 911 I had ever driven, let alone purchase, I decided to buy it while I wait for the 992’s to come out. I am glad I did.....love the car! Before negotiations, the car was dealer listed at $98,500. I too would prefer a GTS, but I have not been disappointed in my S at all. Coming from a new C7, I was impressed with the performance and torque of the Porsche.

The only reason I don’t buy first year is because the model I want is not a first year option. However, there is little to suggest that other than additional models and options that there is any reason to avoid first year cars.

If you want a 992 S or 4S in PDK, you are pretty safe picking up a 2020 model. Sure there will be new models and options available in 2021 and beyond, but unless you are compromising now, it’s unlikely you will regret your decision in the next couple of years.

I do agree that we may see some improvements to design elements such as the gear selector and rear brake light design, but those are more likely to be changes when we get the 992.2. I can’t remember a time when Porsche made major design changes to existing elements prior to a full facelift.

I agree. I think there may have been more relevance sometime in the past....but better automation and R&D have leveled the playing field. The C7 forum always has members touting the same first year fears. One of the worst, or problematic items for GM has been their 8 speed automatic transmission. That has been an issue since introduction in 2015. Not only Corvettes but their trucks and SUV’s as well.

There are several benefits to buying a 992 now:
1) You will have an up to date car for 6 years not just three of you buy the mod cycle light refresh which isn't a new model.
2) The flattest depreciation curve for a new car is when a new model first launches. After that it gets steeper.
3) The second or third year of production are not as good as the first year because you will take a steeper hit in 1-2 years when they do the 992.2

If you are willing to wait, I'd get the .2 version of the 992 (usually all of the customer feedback from the .1 is incorporated into the .2).

I agree. We always buy our cars new and keep 5 years. I despise driving a non current car. I just took delivery of my new 2019 GMC Sierra SLT truck and the wife’s 2016 Yukon Denali will be upgraded this fall when the redesigned 2020 Yukon Denali comes out.

Turns out this whole thread was pointless, because when the car rolled off the truck and the dealer convinced me to come down and "just have a look".. well...
