Why would you order a 992 without the eventual hybrid gear?
 

Everything I a have read mentions a large car with spaces and voids created for the eventual hybrid gear. This hybrid gear is what will make the car world beating-think 918. Yes it will be heavier and way more complex but this is the car that will be a game changer. For all that money why buy a dressed up 991.2 with a little more hp.

Agree - the 992 is a work in progress, from an engine standpoint, anyway. The PDK was changed from a 7 speed to an 8 speed not for performance gains but because it frees up space for the pending hybrid technology (or that is what I have read, anyway).

I've been saying this everywhere... The 992.2 is the one to get. The 992.2 is going to be one hell of a performer and will have interior updates..

The current 992 is a completely underwhelming space/gap filler for the next 3 years... It's a 991.2 + make up and 150 pounds. Puke.

The 992 is like an early base model of a car.. Bunch of blank buttons and switches waiting to be used up in higher trims and newer years.

The hybrid is going to be be a heavy beast and probably like $15K more $$$ or something like that. We get even further away from a pure sports car. No thanks.

The 992.1 is a half ass model which is a placeholder for an even bigger train wreck on the horizon. Get a Hellcat if you want a rocket.

You maybe right about the weight but I believe Porsche has something up their sleeves that will mitigate the weight.. You've see how quick Teslas are.. Porsche is going to beat them at their own game and I'm not even being a fanboy.

The future of the Carrera is going in the GT/Modern/Lux direction.. The GT cars are the ones which will stick to heritage.

Yeah, I have zero interest in electric and hate them. They have many fans, so I have nothing else to offer other than they made the 992 a one size fits all beancounter model and is fugly to boot.

The hybrid setup on the Cayenne E-Hybrid adds 600 pounds to the car. Reviews so far have complained that it makes the SUV too boaty around corners. 911 has always been an agile sports car, not sure how you're going to add that much weight without ruining the dynamics. If you want a car that's super fast in a straight line, get a Tesla. If you want a sports car, get a 911.

I can't imagine them going with huge batteries. Could be some baby battery(ies)

Again like the 918 heavier but the electric power works seamlessly and ferociously to make a much better car than one would guess. Credit Rennlister Hula for this find in the supercar section

Why do people think heavier and faster is better?

It's not better.. It is what it is and this is the direction Porsche is going.

Porsche 911 is daily driver for many people and if they want to still sell cars in the future they have to lower emissions. And stop saying that where Porsches direction is going, its where the worlds is going. If people still want petrol engins and NA Porsche will offer the GT cars or you can buy a Huracan or a 488 that is not a daily driver and all of their customers have a second car.

Thank you. And on that note,.enough with the obsession with " 'ring times", which is a very recent bull****, until the day before yesterday you would never hear it, it just wasn't talked about. Today, instead, it's become the unique absolute benchmark which defines whether a car is good or not.

911 is becoming a two door Panamera. Once the hybrid is out, mission complete. Big, heavy, luxurious, super fast......but not a sports car. I'm not saying I wouldn't want it or that it wont be a fantastic car but let's call it what it is.
