This.

Sales of new ICE vehicles will be essentially outlawed within the next couple of decades in Europe and parts of Asia. The reality is that ICE are a dead end technology.

It's only a matter of time, probably within our lifetime, that cars become an appliance. Automated, electric transports. A refrigerator on wheels. When is the last time you bought a new fridge because you were just so passionate about fridges? It's going to be a hard world for sports cars to thrive.

I don't think Porsche has a choice. They stuck with air-cooled as long as they possibly could - they will not make the same "mistake" twice.

Personally, I'm going to hold on to my dinosaurs.

Not sure I agree the world is going the direction of 450 HP plus cars, and honestly not usable for DD. (Most buying 130k plus car in a 911 I’m sure it’s not their only car) What you see is manufactures adapting to HP wars which will come to a head soon because It’s not sustainable. The 488 is a turbo car, and many are being sold/buyers moving back to the 458 due to being NA. NA owners like myself will have to get on the wagon or driver older NA cars, and I say it’s fun to watch how it plays out. I would bet the farm the 992.2 will be a better car ........Porsche has too much to risk with core owners possibly sitting on the sideline. I’ve purchased (5) Porsche’s in 5 years, and yes I will be on the sidelines.

Exactly, and well put!!

"Ring times" something that doesn't apply to 99% of buyers when you add skill level and other variables.

Ring times are just water cooler bragging rights on who has the bigger d*ck.

Its actually a valid question i think. If u are willing** to pay for a 992 already, why not wait to go full blast hybrid?? Performance is going to be mind bending.

Well for one it’s going to be more expensive for sure. It’s like asking someone why are you buying a Base Carrera when the Turbo S is way faster? Plus waiting for new cars/tech is a never ending process, there will always be something faster or better a few years later. Might as well buy and enjoy what you can now, especially if you DD them since they’re way too fast for the street already.

And lastly, our all electric future will be here within the next decade or two, don’t you want to have one more go at a combustion engine before they’re gone (or rare/collectibles)? Because right now we have a choice but soon enough it will be electric or nothing for the rest of your life.

Based on the current lineup I'm more likely to go with the fridge. Would love a lightweight sports car that looks good, sounds good and is a reasonable value but alas, non exists.

So we'll have 911 Carrera Hybrids that push $180K++ when nicely optioned out? Hasn't this gotten out of hand??

That was 991.1 Turbo S territory.

I don't! That is why I am probably keeping my 3131 lb 991.1 GTS sunroof delete manual tranny until I see the reviews and especially the drive tests of the 992.2!

I remember when you got that 991.2 turbo and noticed you look like you swapped it for the M5. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the comparison

Couldn't agree more! With a 991.2 GT3 in my garage I have no interest in the 992.1 but did place a deposit on a 992.2 GT3 allocation. If the hybrid tech is really that good and makes its way into the .2 GTs I'd love to keep the 991.2 and have a "mini-918" 992.2 in the garage but no one knows exactly how it will all play out yet.
