Default What is the real story with Sport Exhaust tips?

I was browsing other threads and came across that the PSE option has exhausts molded into the bumper? is this true....so it is not real pipes? I also read they are not connected?

Can some explain on what Porsche did the 992 exhaust? I am confused by the threads...on what really is happening?

In both the standard exhaust and PSE the chrome exhaust finishers are molded into the bumper. The exhaust pipes are directly behind the exhaust finisher (you can see it in some pictures) - BUT the exhaust pipes are not directly attached to the exhaust finishers. Some people hate it. Some people are totally fine with it. Porsche says it was done to save costs for collision repair - not sure that was a good reason, but it's what they reported. This trend of "fake" exhaust finishers has become more common on many makes/models and sports cars in recent years.

I like the real exhaust outlet tips,, but at the end of the day if it sounds good thats what matters most. Also wont have to buy tips if you go aftermarket and they will be less hassle to clean. Just trying to be positive

Based on the comments of most 992 early adopters on this forum in other threads I believe the exhaust tips are a non issue.

Is it possible to spec the PSE but later replace the double tips with the quad tips? I understand the whole bottom "panel" may need to be replaced if the tips are fused on to it but I'm just wondering if it's doable 'cause I might just do that.

I am sure this is possible, from what I can tell from the recently tip pictures posted in the Hate the 992 thread....

in pics of the PSE you've been able to see through that they aren't connected... Standard quad tips actually hide it much better (and I think look great).

I want to hear them both because i actually prefer the look of the standard.

I have been surprised that people have been more focused on the door handles than this issue. We've known about the fake exhaust tips for a couple of months now. Skip to 4:30...

911's have had bolt-on decorative exhaust tips for decades. They even came in optional finishes.
Now they don't bolt on, but are part of the rear facia. Lot of folks have been worrying this change for months.

I thought it was reported that they had something to do with protecting the exhaust system with the new particle filters from bumps.

The exhaust finishers are a non-issue. Exhaust flows through them. No big deal.
It's not like they're totally fake exits like those found on Audi's nowadays. On the SQ5, they're just black plastic with the real exhaust exiting the bottom of the car.
