992 in Jet Black

Anyone found pics of finished 992 in Jet Black? I can't decide between GT Silver or Jet Black. I love how the Black hides the plastic bits. Any opinions here from past or current owners of Black 911's... Pros / Cons

Black is a bitch! . I have two black cars (991 and 993) and never again

Preach it brother! I had one (991). Never again.

Same here. Way too many black cars. My last one was traded in this year, primarily because it was Black, and I'm done with Black paint.

ThomasCarreraGTS 12-17-2018 02:49 PM

ANY color but black. Last black was a brand new 2015 Macan S and I told my wife if I ever consider another black car, to shoot me. It shows EVERYTHING.

oalvarez 12-17-2018 03:17 PM

Had a 991 in Jet Black and my spouse drives a Macan in the same color (both were leased, dealer inventory). It's definitely not "black" in the truest sense, it's more like the color of deep, deep graphite grey. It's got what i think is a significant amount of metallic flake, and in the direct sunlight, the color takes on a dark navy blue hue. An interesting type of black prefer the actual gloss black instead.

I REALLY want to order Black.... (just regular, not jet) but can't decide if I'm willing to take on the challenge. I'm wondering if I PPF the entire car if I can keep it up to my standard.

erik_plus8 12-17-2018 05:03 PM

Black. It's not a color - it's a job.

murox 12-17-2018 05:37 PM

I've had 2 black 991s and I said never again. But after seeing the black plastic abyss on the front of the 992, that's really the only color option that doesn't look horrible.

dj997 12-17-2018 06:01 PM

I have a black 991.2 and yes, it extremely hard to take care of. It looks great but you will always find imperfections up close. I have a whole detailing regimen that I make sure I do and it sucks in the winter when its cold. I will most likely go w chalk next time around.

V999 12-17-2018 06:20 PM

Wow, not a lot of love for black 911s here.

I have always had black cars. Love 'em. They are a constant struggle to keep clean, but when they're clean, they look so good.

Having said that, my 991.2 GTS will be the first non-black car I've owned. I went with GT Silver because I like the combination of silver body with black wheels, black (or dark gray) and red exterior accents, and a black interior w/the silver seat-backs and red seat belts. Didn't go with brighter colors because I wanted to fly under the radar a bit with this car, as I will be daily driving it. If it was a GT3 or 3RS, I'd be more inclined to do a brighter, or PTS, color.

Another thing that steered me away from black, aside from liking the look of the color combo above, is that, from certain angles, the wheel gaps seem much bigger (an optical illusion) on the black 911s than on other colors. OTOH, having the sunroof in glass argued more for getting a black car.

The car doesn't arrive till late February, early March, so won't know, for sure, how I feel about my choices until then.

iammacey 12-17-2018 06:30 PM

Most of my vehicles have been black and I love it. Current lineup is a black Macan, black Fiesta ST, black GT4, and my girlfriend has a black 718. I have tried looking into other colors but I know I will always regret not getting black if I don't.

I’ve had lots of colors, and nothing like black clean. Always have wrapped only the front of my cars, and decided to do the entire car it’s a spec I love and will keep so what the hell. I’m a fan of the 991 design.

seis-speed 12-18-2018 12:38 AM

If you don’t need perfectly clean car (I don’t) black is a great color on certain cars.

It would be my choice on 992 because the rear would look so much cleaner. JMO

Black. It's not a color - it's a lifestyle.

Will be fine wife has a GLC 63 AMG that I wax each month no issues. The RS is 100% wrapped so no issues there :burnout:

i can deal with a little bit dirty... can’t deal with swirl marks. With the wrap no swirl marks no?

His car is black and he is having a full paint protection film installed that's clear. The film then gets treated essentially like paint. But it's also self healing to some degree. So if you do get light scratching, leaving it in the sun will help to eliminate them. Definitely you can wash wish less concern since you aren't touching the paint. But should still use the proper techniques.

I've owned one black car, a launch 997, and it was one of the most beautiful cars ever for 10-15 minutes after cleaning, polishing, and waxing. Like a black hole, it pulled in every speck of dust in its vicinity, and was better at cleaning the air than HEPA filters or ionizers. Similarly, it possessed a magical ability to attract swirl marks, and magnify each one so that they could be seen from a distance. I've never owned a boat, but I've had the "best 2 days" experience that boat owners talk about with that black 997.

I've had several black cars...love em.

Detailing a black 911 is excellent therapy. It's cheaper than a shrink and actually accomplishes something.

seis-speed 12-19-2018 10:44 PM

992 looks good in black.

rockrdude 12-20-2018 10:28 AM

Black cars look amazing in the showroom before you drive it out... they will never look this good again. very hard to maintain. stay away.

Bah! Humbug! They all get dirty.

Look at those rear arches!

I like black and have owned several in the past but now moved on to a much better color Carmine Red :D ,.....but to me the 992 looks really boring in black, especially with the wheels above. The black plastic up front and out back do nothing to enhance it, but seem to drag it down.

Can't quite put my finger on it,....but the large squared off flat area above the tire just looks a little odd to me,....like they couldn't decide where to stop so they just sliced it off. I love big hips, but the 992 looks like it is starting to grow some saddle bags.

Jet Black 2015 TT:

Wide body 911's wear black very well.
Lots of work, but so was my '13 white.

I’ve owned a bunch of black cars and, because of the maintenance, would never own another one. That said, my wife owns a black BMW Z8 and a black Mercedes GLE 63S so I’m stuck with maintaining those cars. I’ll likely order my 992 C4S in GT Silver, but I’m still considering white.

chance6 01-05-2019 11:14 PM

Had a black 997, black Cayenne S, and a black metallic Panny TT. Actually the black metallic color *(basalt) wasn't that bad to maintain! But man that gloss black 997 had swirl marks all over the place. It was a terror.

I've moved on from black BUT the 992 does bring back those days. Doesn't look too bad!!
