Asking The Important Questions: Upgraded Audio Over 991?
Without starting a fight, IMHO the base and optional BOSE audio systems are “meh” in the 991. Going back to my 996, and even Boxster, never been impressed with Porsche’s investment in quality acoustics audio systems. I’ve had a ‘12, ‘13, ‘17, ‘18 and now ‘19 911 all with Bose systems and feel like Porsche doesn’t care to put a decent system in the car. My Sony audio system in my Ford Fusion sounds better. Has Porsche upgraded the audio in the 992, or is it a carryover from the 991?

Had a Bose in my 991, it did the job. I’ll probably just go with the base spec or Bose sound system in the 992.. not that important to some. The real sound system is the engine, unfortunately which has been neutered in the sound department. Maybe you’ll need the burmeister audio system to pipe in better fake engine sound it’s all about what your priority is. The 992 Bose system apparently has been upgraded so it may be better than you expect. But if audio is your thing and your willing to pay for it (or sacrifice other options if you need), then burmiester may be right for you.

I've had 8 Porsches, including a Cayenne S, Boxster RS60, PTT, and 5 911s. My Turbo is the only one with Burmester, which I specced out. The Bose was especially bad in my 991.1 S, with speaker rattles, and the GTS wasn't much better. It performed well when playing thru Bluetooth, but the BURMESTER is in a different league.
The Burm is worth it, even in a 911 IMO.
Play the Burm in a Panamera and it will flat knock your socks off. You won't want to get outta the car.
I guess I've learned- the top options for me are PDCC, Burm, RAS (if not std), and PCCB is awesome too.

i'm struggling with this. doing a final build on a 991.2, and i go back and forth. i'm kinda an audiophile; music is important to me. i'd love to spec the Burmester; it's great stuff. but a car interior is never going to be a good acoustic environment, and the upgrade is over five grand on the S i'm building. i have a room in my house dedicated to my stereo, so i'll put the money in there. having said that, a SMALL upgrade to the car's stereo would still be significant to me. we all know the saying in the music world that Bose blows, and it does. but i'm wondering if, even as bad as it is, it's still a step up from the stock stereo in the car. i'm gonna be struggling with this for the next week.....

The Bose plain sucks. The base stereo In my wife's X3 is better. The B&0 in my 6 series blows it away. The 991 Bose was an "upgrade" over the 997 and so on but they all really do suck. The 992 will also suck.

It is a step up, and IMO it is not as bad as many people say. I am glad I got the Bose in my 991.2, especially after having the Soul high-flow cats installed since I have been turning the volume down to hear the exhaust. And no, that will not get old. But in order to decide one really has to listen to each in order to decide what is best for that person and not what someone on a forum says.

Let's not blow this out of proportion. The Bose is miles better than the stock radio and adequate probably for 90% of users. I've never had any complaints from 991.2 passengers.
