992 C2S vs 991.2 GTS builds...

Have my order going in next week. Dealer says July for the 992 and whenever I want the 991.2.

I optioned both...not much difference in price. Aside from the looks and "newness" of the 992. which is a better car performance wise?

My previous car was a 2017 Endurance Racing Edition C2S

I was keen on a 991.2 order for Dec, then I saw the 992 and have decided to hold off until they announce the MT. To each his own. Both are/will be great cars. Personal preference is just that...personal. Congrats and enjoy your car.

991.2 GTS 450 hp vs 992.2 S 443 hp (AND 120lbs + heavier than 991)

conclusion 991.2 GTS much better car, and we haven’t even discussed cosmetic changes.

You're much better off with the 992 C2S than a 2018 GTS. The performance will be similar despite the marginal difference in weight. But from an economic perspective, even if the configurator cost is similar as you add options, you'll get saddled with the higher depreciation that will occur when buying the last MY in the 991 series. Cosmetically, I believe the 992 is a better overall design, particularly the interior, but most of the exterior elements have improved as well over the 991.

A 991.1 or 991.2 is infinitely more attractive than the 992 both inside and out, in the eye of this beholder. Grab a 991.2 while you can.

Are you ditching your C2S already? We have the same car and mine is just amazing. Putting aside depreciation on any new car, if you are buying for your personal pleasure only, which do you think you'll enjoying in your garage the most? If you think you'll wish you had got the 992 then wait. The fact is the 991.2 GTS will be awesome and should put a smile on your face. Clearly though the 992 will likely out perform the 991.2.

I had a 2015 GTS with low miles yesterday that I paint corrected and drove 160 miles. I wouldn't trade my 2017 Endurance Edition for it if you paid me. If the new 992 C2S is equivalently that much better than the 991.2 GTS then wait for sure if performance is your goal. I'll be surprised though if the difference is that big.

Doubt you are going to feel either the weight difference or the horsepower difference. I have a super sensitive butt dynameter from racing these things since early 80s, but we are talking different cars. First no one except Honda Accord driving Car & Driver writers compares peak. Area under the torque or power curve, depending upon application, is key. There is also a litany of factors that dictate grip, handling, feel, turn in, balance and etc. that vary from car to car, model to model that impact handling and the way a car drives that is vastly more important than 100 pounds. I have driven many cars on the track that heavier, but set up better, that handled better and felt better than a lighter car not set up as well.

I doubt very seriously 99.9 percent on here would be sensitive to a 7 hp peak and 100 pound weight differences between these two cars that was actually attributable to weight or peak hp. The newer car could feasibly be dialed in to feel quicker and more nimble.

I further doubt than 99.9% on here can drive either car at 9/10s, much less than 10/10s, on a consistent basis so the negligible weight and peak hp differences is rather meaningless.

That said, Porsche will certainly detune the 992 S a bit to set the 992 GTS, GT3, Turbo and etc. sufficiently apart so people will purchase the more expensive cars and a GTS is certainly more desirable.

Also 991.2 GTS 550Nm torque whereas 992.1S 530Nm torque - thus peak HP maybe similar but under the curve the 991.2 GTS develops more power.

Engine mounts in the 992 have been moved forward 20cm too. The 992GTS will have the same torque (550Nm) as the current GTS but the peak HP will be ~475HP.

Widely acknowledged in Porsche, the 991.2 was "too big a step" forward (in relation to the Carreras).

Had a good chat to my SA, he ran out his sales pitch which didn't really pass the laugh test. IMHO, the only real reason to get the 992 is because you want a "new" car.

Afterthought - my SA told me they got rid of the PDK stick because (a) no one uses it (not true) (b) the nubbin allows better reach around to the controls (so what about the manual).

Doesn't seem to be a lot of wow factor with the 992 - bit like the new iphone really - and destined for the same outcome. First Porsche in a long time that hasn't either moved me in a strongly negative/positive vain - just a bit meh. Perhaps time will alter that.

This is a very tough choice . I would say don't buy either . If you buy the GTS and love the 992 you will take a bath in resale . If you buy the 992S you will eventually want the GTS . Plus the first cars off the boat usually come with some quirks , The 991.2 is the last of the model run so whatever quirks any 991.2 ever had Porsche had time to work on .
I have a GTS and love the car . I will wait until the 992 GTS .

991.2 GTS is a far better looking car than 992, at least for now.

Porsche will release sports mirror, spoilers, bumpers

but for now. i dont see how 992 is better from purely look.

Maybe 992 drives much better.

A 991.2 with RAS should handle better than a 992 without RAS :). The comparos should make interesting reading.

GTS trim will hold it's value better over a C2S. Essentially identical engine. Interior looks better.

You can almost certainly negotiate a better deal on the outgoing model over a newly announced model.

Get the 991.2.

I kinda agree. Also, buying new model year 1 is risky. I learnt it hard way.

It's a tough call but seems you change out cars often. Why not do the GTS now and look at a 992 in a few years?

I think that you’ve (perhaps unwittingly) given him the correct answer. Buy the 991.2 GTS now with a modest discount (~ 5% seems achievable in the current market). I’d do the same.
