992 C2S vs 991.2 GTS builds...
#16
A 992 4S is not only faster 0-62 but of course also faster around a track if that is important. People seem to forget that a 991 4 GTS is just a Carrera 4S with discount on extras from the previous generation of Porsche 911 while 992 is the latest one where everything is upgraded...
997 GTS did not stand a chance against 991 S and it will be exactly the same with the 991 GTS.

Moreover unless the 992 has RAS it will not be quicker. The 991.2 is a very complete package - like for like the 992 seems to have incremental improvements but GTS to 992S it appears the GTS has the wood.
Hard to get excited about changing and indeed won't be doing that anytime soon. The only selling point is it's a newer model and that assumes one likes the largely cosmetic changes.
It seems to me the 992 has become a true GT car - its big, it's heavy and no longer pretending to be a sports car. Basically it's a kluged solution for the 911 to go hybrid/electric whilst trying to retain the same market. A poor and obvious compromise that's not fooling people at least those that have been multiple or long term buyers.
The 911 has lost its identity and is drowning in the mass marketing of VAG.

The difference being the 991.2 GTS has more power under the curve and the 992S is reportedly about 5s quicker round the ring than the 991.2S which of course is not quicker than the 991.2 GTS.

But better performance is only one thing, the 991 looks very, very dated compared to the 992

For reference the 991.2S - 7:34 (Chris Gebhardt), Porsche claim the 992S is 5s quicker so 7:29. The 991.2GTS did 7:23.77 (Chris Gebhardt). Thats what happens when you have more torque and power under the curve in what is widely acknowledged as a very well sorted out car. The 992S sits between the 991.2S and the 991.2 GTS because of the torque e.g. 991.2S = 500Nm, 992S = 530Nm and 991.2GTS = 550Nm. Not a lot of mystery to this.
In terms of design, from the side - the 991 and 992 are near identical (except the 992 is taller by 1cm), from the front the bonnet alignment on the 992 is poor and looks disjointed, the rear looks ballooned. But then again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Three Wheelin'
991.2 GTS over the 992S. When the 992 GTS becomes available in 2 years, different story. I was faced with the same dilemma and ordered a 19 GTS. Took delivery last Friday. I want the lighter, more powerful car with SPASM in a manual. I also wanted the Alcantara and centerlocks. You can’t spec a 992 like that, SPASM isn’t available yet, the car is taller, and heavier and more expensive. The only thing that looks really attractive to me is the wider front track. The 992 would be a great handler if it didn’t get 150 lbs heavier.

I would definitely hold off on the 992 if cross shopping the 991.2 GTS. The 991.2 is more polished. You get more bang for your buck with the .2 GTS.
At least until there's a 992.2 S/GTS. Why go with a slower performing, heavier car whose bugs and kinks still need to be sorted? Let others be the guinea pigs. The 992.2 is the one to buy.

With a small price difference, I will surely wait for a 992.
But if I cannot wait and need to have a Porsche now, I'm think it won't be too difficult to find a decent used deal for a 991.2. This way, you don't suffer too much depreciation when you want to replace it with the 992 later on.

I’ve been in your situation a couple of times. In 1998, I had a chance to buy one of the last air cooled C4S’ and, instead, I bought a new water cooled 911. Big mistake. The last of the air cooled 911’s have become classics and the car I bought was one of the worst 911’s I ever owned. In 2012 I bought a new 997.2 Turbo Cab instead of waiting for a 991.1 Turbo. I loved the styling of the 997 and really liked that car, but in the end I should have waited and bought the 991 Turbo. The 991 was a significant leap forward and I missed out on that. I was not a fan of the 992 when I was looking at spy shots, but after it was released it’s really grown on me. I love the interior and I actually think the exterior is really good looking...in fact, I now think the 991 looks boring. At this point in my life, I care way more about technology and creature comforts than a 0.1 second reduction in 0-60 times or 110lbs in increased weight. I also care about owning a cool car that gets noticed. There are a gazillion 991’s out there but the 992, at least for the next year or so, is going to be a new look. Long story short, if I were in your shoes I’d buy the 992 but, instead of a C2S, I’d buy the C4S.

I feel the same way. I had ordered a 991.2 Targa a few weeks ago. I also felt at first that the 991.2 interior looked better than the 992. However, when I saw the 992 I realized that the car just overall looked newer, fresher and more modern. I also realized that I did not want to own the last model year of a five year run on the Targa. I know the new 992 Targa is probably 18-24 months off so I bought the 992 C2S( live in Ca). Hopefully I will get it late June or early July. Dealer said they would know allocation dates in 4-5 weeks.

992 S is only 1% faster around the ring compared to the 991.2 S, yet is 4% higher in price (PDK to PDK) and has a de-contented interior/exterior.
To bring it close to a 991.2 S would mean spending about $6~$7k additional....more like a 10~12% increase when all said and done. (headliner, sport design package or painted exterior options, etc to at least get it close to a 991.2 S in look and feel).
991.2 GTS is about a wash in performance, but on paper is 7% higher in cost (much of it made up by GTS package inclusions,...sport exhaust, suspension, interior, etc). Add those to a 992 S and price difference is negligible.
A 1% improvement in performance vs a 10% increase in price is pretty bad IMO,.....even for Porsche. Previous "all-new" 911 generations have offered greater performance for a less % increase in price,...and offered more content in the process.
If it were me I would not be wasting my money on a 992 S (unless a decent discount is given). I'd buy a discounted 991.2 GTS right now,....and be waiting on at least a 992 GTS to see what it has to offer,...and then a 992.2. Those might be more worthwhile and better looking.
