I suppose it is what your used to. If your used to a decent sports car, the F80 M3 will leave you wanting and very underwhelmed. If you used to driving Honda Accords and 3 series type vehicles, I suppose an M3 might seem okay. I honestly find nothing redeeming about the car at all and now it apparently needs a new driveshaft for yet another BMW recall and they don't even have any driveshafts in stock for it . .
perhaps it is what you’re used to, as the m3 has always been a sedan based sporty car. As I have said it is now my 3rd generation and I have had no problems with my 4 year old 38k m3. No recalls.

nearly all issues are from modified cars, the platform has become a tuners paradise and if you play you might have to pay.

Bimmerpost has has plenty of threads that discuss crank hub splines locks for those that want to modify their cars.

Here is a poll, very few cars with SCH (spun crank hub), most all were modified:

I've loved my F80. Perfect daily driver and other than a few annoying rattles its been bullet proof. VERY different car from a 911 as evidenced by the 80-100% price differential
