To be fair, his freedom as a designer is heavily constrained by other considerations. If he gets orders to package-protect a hybrid drivetrain, then anything that comes out of his studio will have a bloated rear end. The decision to use wheels that belong on a city bus also wouldn't have been his, although he tried to make the best of it and arguably succeeded.
Some things, though, like the bacon-strip CHMSL, are harder to excuse. It certainliy made no sense for him to act like it is some sort of timeless design innovation. I like the "pause button" metaphor, but the implementation is cheap and artless.

If you look carefully you will see its made of brown rice paper - after eating the bacon you can eat the rice paper and read your fortune too

Okay, that’s fair to consider the constraints he was working with. It’s sad to see him gushing about the strips of bacon - since they are clearly hideous - but perhaps something artful like that brilliantly made photoshop posted earlier where the brake lights integrated cleanly into the vent is in practice just impossible to achieve. Maybe there is a govt. specced height regulation that required him to slide the bacon way up the car’s backside.

They got the third brake light right with the 991.1 and 991.2 (which has similar grill). What the hell changed here with the 992?

Who blamed who? Emerging market de facto don t have and shouldn t be obliged to have the same old guys tastes (i know many old chinese with my same tastes) and sorry for the reality but emerging market is China,
I am sure they will love it and we know Porsche is desperately chasing the new customers and only a blind can believe that porsche did not think about new markets when designing the 992
is the progress indeed as we have the right to have a car that looks like a 911 not a panamera

They absolutely could have improved it.
New chassis [stiffer], bump in power, TASTEFULLY upgrade the interior. Bigger 991.1 style openings in front. Wider track/similar to what they did do to fenders. The light bar on rear does look more modern.... but do back to a traditional bumper valence and cohesive fonts with horizontal third brake light across the top of the engine grill. BAM. Oh and lose 200 pounds.
