Nothing described makes me inclined to move forward from my 991.2.

I had to make the decision a few months ago: order 991.2 or wait. I knew there would be more power in the 992, but Porsche did just enough release of the half baked car (by design?) to scare me straight into an order.
Who knows, maybe the final version will be great, but I am happy with my decison thus far. A small donation to Cobb in the future will remedy any gap.

It occurs to me that I'm not really put off by a toggle switch for the transmission. Or even the shape of it. What is wrong about it, to me, at least, is the front and center placement where a real gear shift lever/**** should be.
That toggle could be fine somewhere else than the center console since the PDK gearshift is no longer a central element of this vehicle.
Does it need to be? I don't think so... just put it up on the dash, like the 918's nub. And use the real estate in the center console for something else cool.
Of course, then you'd have two different consoles; one for the MT and a different one for the PDK.

For those aeronautical folks out there, are modern planes going away from buttons and switches towards menus on a touchscreen display?

I’m inclined to give Porsche a pass on the comments about cheap interior and plastic parts. These are test mules, not demo cars and in reading the article it is made clear that the engineers focused on dialing in the car, not fit-and-finish.

There is certainly a lot more glass and multi-function displays in modern avionics and aircraft controls than before, with the resultant buttons.

That's where I'm at too. I wanted to want it. Hoped there'd be some reason that I just couldn't resist buying one. Wanted to spec to get exactly the car I wanted rather than buy from inventory (which is what I did with the 991.2). But meh.
