My 991.1 TS is a 2014, w/ 49K miles, and the original top still looks brand new. If stored with top up, always garaged when not driven, and kept clean, I see no reason why the top won't last another 10 years. Keeping up with treatments to keep it water repellant seems to help a lot as well.
I also have the top down all the time at outside air temps between 50-85ºF, and that's well more the half the year in the DC metro area. Moreover, a lot of folks don't realize it's essentially an insulated hard top with a fabric covering and is as quiet as a coupe with the top up.
Having had both, I enjoy convertible sports cars far more than coupes.

I've had a number of convertibles over the years and I live in a very sunny area. However, when looking in the rear view mirror at my use of the convertible tops, it's actually been rather rare that I've actually put the tops down, once the initial novelty dissipates.

I don’t think there’s much of a downside in having a convertible. You could always leave the top up. If you’re going for a black car, then the color is consistent so it’s not as noticeable. The profile is pretty much identical. The ride quality and performance are extremely close. I don’t know how many of us would be able to tell the difference. I realize around a track the convertible might be a little bit slower, but how much time are we spending on a track especially in a convertible.
Today was a beautiful day here in South Jersey. I got to tell you with the top down. It is so enjoyable.
Wide open throttle. Launch controls with the top down.
In my opinion, it really heightens your experience.

The TTS cab is my favorite car. I wouldn't get a TTS any other way. Driving with open top is just happiness.
The feeling of speed and the sound with the top down clearly benefits the visceral sensations and engagement. Top down visibility is amazing (top up visibility slightly compromised). Top down, there is minimal turbulence or wind noise even on the highway (with rear wind diffuser up). Top operation is one touch and works perfectly - SmartTop addition allows opening/closing from key. Top goes up/down quickly while driving, so really no reason not to open if weather is dry and in the 55-100 degree range.
The silhouette very closely matches the coupe, and the wing balances the proportions well. Top down, the car appears even more wide and curvy and planted. Back seats are more accessible with top down.
It may not be the lightest car, but the torque and HP make up for that. The cab added roof weight is really negligible for it's intended use as a daily driving supercar.
Visit the Porsche museum and one will readily appreciate the long history of open top driving in the heritage and ethos of the brand.
I think it is my best looking Porsche, and virtually a sleeper super car on the road.

^^^^ 100% agree with the above. I've never been without true convertible (not a targa-type) in more than 4 decades, and what you say about a surprising lack of turbulence at highway speeds is true. Moreover, the ability to put the top and and down quickly while driving make it very easy to enjoy the best of both worlds. My top is often up and down 4-5 times on a single drive.
However, I also understand that some people just won't ever consider a convertible for myriad reasons.

My wife hates the cab, or even driving a regular car with sunroof or windows open. Some people just like the car closed with AC on. So I get it, not for everyone.
