Active Aero demonstration on the 992 turbo

Just noticed a very interesting active aero phenomenon on my car today - if you drive with the moonroof open, the rear spoiler deploys even in Normal mode, and if in Sport or Race modes the rear spoiler will raise to a level even higher than usual. The engineers must have found that the open roof diverts the airstream above the rear spoiler and thus reducing downforce on the rear axle.

Cheat code….. activated!

Much easier than up up down down left right left right b a select start

This was also a feature in the 991. I don’t remember the exact mph but when you drive 125ish+ it also raises in the taller position without the sunroof open

Convertible Top down (opened) in Normal Mode spoiler raises near 75mph - Sport or Sport+ the spoiler will readjust again -- Normal Mode with the Top up (closed) the spoiler does not move

Someone must have thought about it :roflmao:

Yes, I remember reading that in the press release, how the active aero adjusts to the sunroof position. Porsche sure are thorough with their engineering.

PAA has also been extended to include a Wet mode function, which moves the aerodynamic balance towards the rear axle for greater driving stability in wet road conditions, as well as the airbrake function, which produces higher drag and greater downforce in the event of full braking at high speed and contributes to a shorter braking distance and greater driving stability. PAA is also used for adaptation to the changed air flow around the vehicle when the sliding roof or convertible top is open. This means that there are a total of eight different aerodynamic configurations, which are each described by a specific combination of the active aerodynamic components.

Except how to get the car into neutral if the battery dies...

Active Aero is one of those things you don't really know is working since it is unobtrusive unless of course you get a spoiler error then it's downright scary how unstable the car is at speed with no downforce.
The first time i noticed the wing deployed automatically with sunroof open in normal mode was in my 991 and coming from BMW was not used to this so I manually brought down the wing only for the wing to redeploy a sec later :roflmao:

As a tidbit, the spoiler/wing also deploy in the “NORMAL” driving mode, but they do at a higher 180km/h (112mph) speed than in “SPORT” where they deploy at 120km/h (75mph).

I noticed this in the 992 GTS I had before my 992 TTS, the wing on ALL (non-fixed winged) 992's will open higher as well with the sunroof open.
