Hitting US national news:

https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/17/tech/...ars/index.html

https://www.foxnews.com/auto/burning...atlantic-ocean

Must be a nightmare for PAG/PCNA and of course worse for customers.

Even if Lithium batteries did not start the fire, once one of them catches on fire - which is most likely a mathematical certainty at this point, you can imagine how quickly the fire can spread from car to car. Keep in mind that this has now been burning for 36 hours straight.

I got the call about my car that I knew was on the ship and was told that the entire ship is a loss. Also was told I can change my configuration if I want to as next car will be put in as a new order. Supposed to know more soon about how Porsche is going to handle these replacement orders.

Good luck if yours was on the Felicity Ace.

Marine salvage procedures are very specific under International Maritime law. Once the crew abandons ship it becomes technically subject to salvage laws. The cargo will be assesed for value but the likelihood that any of these vehicles will see any US dealer or customer is highly remote. Typically determined cause of the loss by a maritime law board will determine the apportionment of liability which includes cargo owner, shipper, and ship owner if different from shipping company. Porsche will make customers whole regardless and independent of these issues.

Sorry for all that suffered a loss with this fire. After waiting months it would be a tough pill, but Porsche will eventually make good.

On a different topic, great advice below....wish I had known about this setting earlier.

Thanks. I’m with you. Great your dealer contacted you with the information. Sadly, I had to contact mine. From the information I’ve been reading, most thought it would be a total loss, but some here, made other assumptions. At least we have some clarity. Thanks again…..

This is heart breaking for those who have awaited patiently through the long allocation-configuration-production process.
Rest assured Porsche will prioritize resupply for customers who have had losses.
If there are any GT3 owners in my area (Ontario) that had a loss, I’m happy to connect with you once the snow melts and share some driving miles on my 992 GT3 that arrived unscathed last fall.
Send me a PM.

@Cyrek @pfdenver @GeorgeM3768, since this impacts multiple models and threads were scattered across the forums, I made a tracker thread in General to track those of us impacted and share the dealer/Porsche's response. I encourage you to post your info there: https://rennlist.com/forums/general-...ship-fire.html.

Over 100 Lamborghini’s were lost as well. Bugatti lost a handful of brand new Chiron’s. Sounds like a portion of the Lamborghinis were the very first batch of the new limited edition Aventador Ultimae’s which they were supposed to only make 250 coupes and 250 roadsters of that car for the whole globe. Austin Lamborghini lost 3 cars just at that one dealer alone.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...olkswagen-fire

"n internal email from Volkswagen US said the ship was carrying 3,965 vehicles of the VW, Porsche, Audi and Lamborghini brands, the German newspaper Handelsblatt reported."

My car has been sitting at Emden since 1/17 for shipment to Jacksonville. I was fortunate that it missed the F. Ace.

Hopefully, some of the cargo holds are sealed off from each other to prevent a fire jump - but if the infrastructure of the ship is consumed, perhaps the firewall bulkheads won't be sufficient.
