Do I dare buy a Black 911?
Currently have a 2012 991, base model, lightly equipped. Bought it used a few years ago, my first. Want to move up to a more nicely equipped 911. Like the base motor, but am open to an S.
Seems like 60% or more of the used ones I look at are Black. I've never had a Black car before - current car is a Platinum Silver - very easy to keep clean.
Can anyone comment on regrets if they got a Black color? Also, if you have a Black and like it, are there any tricks to KEEPING them clean, as in anti-static detail sprays that actually work? Or is just a fact of life that if you drive it five minutes it will be covered in dust?
Lastly, the prices most dealers are asking on used '17s is so close to MSRP that I am tempted to just buy a new one. The best my dealer is offering is 5% off. Anyone in the Midwest area aware of any dealers they like that are doing better than that?
Thanks for your help!

I live in LA and drive a Black 991.1 GTS. I got a nano coating done and it helps but still seems to attract a lot of LA dust.
It looks great when it's clean, but it's a lot of work to keep it that way. I haven't found away around it.

Before my 911, my P-cars had either been silver (Arctic or Platinum) or grey (Seal Grey).
But I knew that at the right time, I was going to get a Black 911. And I got one. No doubt its harder to keep clean. But its what I wanted, and I have no regrets. And the 911 AC/HVAC system can more than keep up with cooling a black car. The AC in the 991.1 is awesome in both cooling and in pushing out a high volume of air from the vents.

If you are a perfectionist, then black is the wrong color. I've learned to not worry about minor imperfections, and my car looks perfect from 5'+. Since black has a mirror like surface, the tiniest imperfections can be seen. As others have stated, it takes no more than five minutes for a fine coating of dust to be seen after a wash and polish. So black isn't for perfectionists.
As someone who has owned black cars for well over ten years, my recommendation is to limit the number of times microfiber cloths come in contact with the surface of the car. Since my car rarely gets very dirty, I limit my washes to no more than one a month. I use a leaf blower to dry the surface after a wash and then follow up gently with a microfiber drying cloth. Of course the wash is done with a microfiber mitt which I thoroughly rinse with a hose before re-immersing in the wash bucket. In between washes I use Griot's Spray On Car Wash with good results, and dry using microfiber drying towels designed specifically for the Spray On Wash.
Despite these precautions there are some superficial scratches which can be seen on my car's finish if viewed in the right light and at the right angle. I use to be **** about them and would polish them out, but I don't like the idea of polishing away clear coat and of course other scratches will return.
So bottom line I get lots of complements about how great my car looks, and although it's far from perfect, I've learned to be happy with less than perfection.

They all get dirty and need bathes. Black is awesome, along with white, silver, blue, red, yellow and any other color of 911.

Black is not a color, it's an obsession. Takes a lot of care, but the rewards are worth it. Have 3 black cars now. Check out SwissVax. After lots of products tried, it seems to work the best.

I've had 6 black cars over the last 12 years. Two are in the fleet now, including the our Cayenne. Truthfully, I'm about done.
When clean, it could not be a more awesome car color. However, you see every imperfection. Hairline scratches, swirl marks, dust and general dirt. My 911 is GT Silver because as much as black is over the top awesome, I was done with the worry of seeing everything. If you have to have it, just know that it takes more care than a lighter color car.
