991.2 GTS w/ SPASM - Front Axle lift or no??
#32
update on my order....
I have changed my order today to ADD Front Axle Lift system (FAL).
This has been a great thread with great info and i sure appreciate it.
Main reason for change of order:
--I'm moving from MN to Michigan two weeks from now. I would rather increase the budget by 2500 and have it if i need it, vs. scrape and replace bumper lips and not able to add it after the fact (easily).
--That and the OCD would kill me during this 90-day wait.
Basically, too many unknowns for where i will live and drive in Michigan.

You will not regret that decision. I too ordered FAL on my GTS.

I am in the unique position of currently driving a '16 C2 with SPASM and a '16 GT3 with front axle lift. No matter what I do, I always seem to scrape at some point the C2 spoiler. I originally thought the FAL was not necessary. After installing the DSC controller in the C2 (soon to go in the GT3), I find that the front floats over road dips and is more prone to hitting the front lip more frequently. For reference, the SPASM is 10mm than the "S" & 20mm lower than the stock C2. The GT3 is 10mm lower than the SPASM.
I would recommend including the option in the GTS, especially if you install the DSC controller later.

I have it on my 991.2 C2S with no SPASM. My driveway is steep; with FAL I barely clear my driveway. Have used occasionally going over large speed-bumps and tight garages. For me to get or not was not a choice. I'd highly recommend with SPASM; 911's nose is long, wants to scrape everything.

My C4S has SPASM and I use the front axle lift daily. I got it because my driveway is insane, but I've found that I need it frequently. Gas stations are the most common places I encounter a steep transition from the road up the apron to the parking lot, and I definitely scrape when I misjudge the slope and don't hit the lift button. The spoiler on your GTS will be even lower than the one on my C4S.

I have SPASM on my 991.1S. In southern california, I scrape the bottom of it on around 20% of the parking lot exit ramps unless I can exit at an extreme angle.
So far I haven't seen noticeable damage from the scrapes but it is annoying. A front axle lift would definitely avoid the problem. I would probably order it if I had the chance.

Blaizin...ride height doesn't change when you engage the sport part of SPASM this on.y stiffens up the shocks and re-maps throttle

I didn't spec FAL on my .2 GTS. Don't miss it a bit. Speed bumps are a non issue. Occasional slight scrape on a ramp, but just take it slow at an angle and you're good.

No FAL on my 991.2 C4 GTS and have not had a need for it yet. Had the car since May. I had time to order and debated the decision. I had Cayman GTS w/x73 that occasionally scraped in places the 911 does not have an issue. I thought if I spent the money on it I would end up scraping the one time I did not think to use it and that would annoy me a lot. I figure I can always replace the plastic black spoiler lip at some point if needed. Replacing it 5 times would still cost less than the lift. In the end though - it's really a personal choice unless you can't pull out of your own driveway or something without it.

Now that i spec'd it, i'm still gonna worry about forgetting to activate it that one time....
