Well said.

Yeah, it's gonna be the 911. Without sunroof. The extra bit of space makes it much more fit for me in numerous ways.

UNLESS I find a Cayman GTS in white, at an offer I can't refuse, to the point where I'll deal with slightly more limited headroom for a short period of time and get a fun experience out of it.

I'm starting to reconsider even the Macan GTS. I'm basically all over the place, lol.

But 911 with no sunroof is the ticket. Now to actually be able to find it.

My no-stories, no-sunroof GTS is still available at Knoxville's Harper Porsche. I even know what they paid for it!

OHH man, don't torture me.

That baby is quite a ways out of what I want to spend, but DAMN, a no-sunroof 991.1 pinnacle of N/A sweetness (on the non GT3 front) is my absolute ultimate.

I'm not suggesting that a 991 doesn't have more headroom than a 981 (especially when neither are equipped with a sunroof), but where is it primarily coming from? Lower seating position? Or just that extra inch at the top of the sloping roof profile? Or a combination of all of the above?

Ive got both a GT4 and a 991 GTS. Both are superb and have their own niche.

The GTS is our Grand tourer that we take on trips through the mountains. Comfy, lots of space and a pdk.

The GT4 is our canyon carver/track rat. It's a much more "fun" car to drive than the GTS. The exhaust note is intoxicatingly fun. It's the car I grab the keys to after a tough day. Pure driving bliss.

Base 991.1 vs 981 GTS with both remaining stock?

If driving fun is the priority, I'd go 981 GTS with no second thoughts. A (seriously, seriously) sweet spot as a driver's car. As a road car, it might even be sweeter in some ways than a GT4 (said as someone who tested both but chose a GT4). 991.1 base Carrera, good as it is in its own way, would never enter into a driving fun comparison with a GT4—at least not for me.

If you fit in a 981, I think you'll have more fun in a 981.

Nice slogan, but for many of us there's no substitute for a GT4. If you look at the asking prices for used GT4s, it appears that many feel that way.

That is a really cool composite of the two models!

That's a great comparison. I think I can confidently say exactly where it comes from. The sunroof 991 may be a little more cramped in headroom than a manual seat Cayman, but it's that rear slope of the Cayman that indeed takes up some room. Also, the sides of the Cayman (at least on the inside roofline) taper in more toward your head, while the 991 with no sunroof has a lot of clean space until the very dip of the roof towards the windows. I also believe the 991 may have a slightly higher dash or steering wheel position (for legroom) and the visor of the Cayman again seems to come a little lower. It seems the Cayman roof on the inside is a little "thicker" towards all the edges (likely to compensate for lack of a B Pillar). The windows of the 991 also *seem* to go a little higher (less of the roof next to your head).

Man, once gain you're making it hard to resist the GTS. I've watched a lot of Cayman GTS reviews. To me, it truly does seem like the perfect around-town road going sports car.

BTW, is there any reason to avoid a 2013 (I will avoid 2012.5 models) over a 2014+ 991?

No, and no reason to avoid 2012.5 models, ether. I have owned both!

Aren't the 2012.5 models an earlier PCM version? I remember seeing something about that when I was looking in to a reversing camera for my C4S cab.
