Default Converting 2014 991.1 CS *narrow* to center lock wheels?

Hi everyone,

I got a 2014 Carrera S with 5 lugs, that I'm considering converting to CL / Center-locks as I simply love the GTS/Turbo S look, but:

Is it possible to convert a narrow body to centerlocks? Will the offset match up, or do I need spacers in combination with the adaptors?

2014 Carrera S offsets:
8.5J x 20 ET51
11 x 20 ET70

20" Turbo offsets:
8.5" x 20" ET51
11" x 20" ET59

Thanks! (and yes I've searched the forum)

Spacers on CLs? I won't categorically say that's impossible, but... that sure seems impossible to me. And I don't think you'd be using "adaptors", which implies something you'd attach to your existing 5-lug hubs to then screw a CL to. Four new hubs would be in order. That would probably cost at least 50 dollars a corner.

I get your desire to modify your existing car. But honestly, it seems highly likely that you could buy a 15 GTS, get the CLs and widebody and lots of other GTS goodies, for 110k or even less, depending on mileage. When it came time to sell you'd get back most (or maybe all) of the extra cost of the GTS. Whereas the modified C2 would bring pretty much exactly what an unmodified C2 would bring (if you're lucky and find just the right buyer. Most likely is that you'd get less for it.)

Switching to CLs would of-course mean switching the hubs to CL, which is what I meant with "adapters".

The question in matter is whether a spacer is needed behind the new hub to make the offsets align (11mm), or it should be alright?

Ideally I'd have a GTS, but I don't and that's a different conversation than this

Okay, sorry. The wording of your original question sounded like someone who had just decided "Those Centerlocks look KEWL! I think I'll put some on my NB 911!"

Sorry for pulling up this thread again, but I am also considering converting my 2013 Carrera S Convertible with 5 lugs to CL.

While the front axle shouldn't be a problem at all (as the rim dimensions as well as the ET are basically identical) the rear axle might be more challenging:

11" x 20" ET70 (991.1 Carrera S)
11" x 20" ET59 (991.1 Turbo S)

11mm difference might look a bit poor, especially since I have 5mm spacers (so actually 16mm difference) mounted at the rear. Therefore I was wondering if I could simply go for the 991.2 Turbo rims, which are a 11.5" ET56 vs. 11.0" ET59. 0.5" converts into 12.7mm, which would bring me closer to my current setup. Am I missing anything?

EDIT:

I just noticed that the 991.1 GTS actually has a lower ET on the rear (ET52 vs. ET70 on my 2S). Given that both rims are 11'' and the GTS has a wider body, I am now wondering if the CL hubs have a different width than the 5 lugs hub. Seems like ETs aren't really comparable for CL vs. 5 lugs?

Thanks!

Still seems like a solution that causes more issues, at significant cost. If only the looks matter, maybe somebody makes a wheel like this:

Seems like you have a backward understanding of offsets. A Lower et means the wheel sticks out more, not less. So the turbo wheels stick out further, not more inward.

also, because you run 5 mm spacers your effective et is now et65, not et70.

Also, a wider wheel with the same et has a more aggressive offset.

the turbo offset is more aggressive because of far wider wheel. Et 56 compared to et70 is 14mm further pushed out from the hub. The extra half inch adds another 6.3 mm to that. 20.3mm further out, seems way aggressive for a narrow body.

the gts style wheels are 18mm more aggressive, basically akin to using a 18mm spacer on your current wheels.

the gts is wider than the carerra s so uses more aggressive offsets and the turbo wider still

Which part of the look do you love, the specific wheel design, or the center lock?

If it's the latter, then why not do the conversion and order aftermarket wheels with offsets appropriate for your NB car?
