992 will be first released as a MY 2019, and probably arrive on our shores sometime a year from now (Q2 or early Q3 2018)

I thought we had already agreed on that. Just ask the 991.1 owners.

This is sad: I've been a couple of weeks in Europe on business and find myself looking at pictures of my car. I hope that after spending a fair amount of time in it over the summer that my obsession will subside.

It won't, at least not for me. There will always be something newer, faster, etc. out there but I find the 991 to be a beautiful and classic shape. Just gorgeous. I don't think that place in my heart for mine will fade away any time soon...

Not in the the 991 forum, here it will be the "last true driver's Porsche" that's "more direct and engageing"... on the 992 forum of course it will be "obsolete" and "painfully slow" with "not enough power even for a daily driver".

We should start these threads now and then troll the 992 community to use the search function.

I asked my dealer the same. He said "most likely Fall 2020 for it to arrive in dealers."

My question was as to when when I could order one.... still not too sure.

In a few years time we will hear that a 991 is a good car if You don't drive every day, but if You do it is not refined enough and does not cope with modern traffic, if You intend to use Your 911 as an everyday car and not just an enthusiast vehicle it must be a 992.

I speculate this as well. The "7 year" number has not always been the case . It has been shorter and even longer .The 993 launched in 95 and in 99 came the 996 (99-05). The 996 refresh came in 02 and then in 05 came the 997 . The 991 began mid year as a .5 ("the new 911") which made 2012 a split year between the 997.2 and 991.1 and did not get refreshed until 2017 . The other thing is model year launches are not consistent . the most dramatic example was the 2017 cars arriving in march of 2016 but 18 cars facing certification delays launching much later (IE Macan) . It's as if Porsche makes a tentative schedule and throws this last minute curve ball Look at the new Cayenne for example . Why is it not here already ? It's been on the configurator . The "7 year" window is gone (came as a 2011 model) .

So my guess and its just a guess . It has to launch in Europe first before the states sees it . Journalists will review it, drive it , take pictures . We'll all go "oooh" and "ahhhh" reading it . A few will cling to the last gen as the one and only.. The 992 will come .. just not yet.

Cliff note version -
993 - (95-98) -4 model years
996- (99-04) - 6 model years
997(05-12.5)- 7.5 model years
991 -- 12.5 to present and still going -
The timelines are growing ....

That's actually 4 and 6 model years respectively.
