Younger drivers sometimes get screwed. That said, definitely shop around.

Data - not sound bites
This is on topic because your insurance value of the vehicle determines what the payout would be in a total loss.
The data I have presented and my insurance agent provided were from actual sales. It's great you have a nice car that you don't want to sell but really that is the only thing completely off topic. If you have some sales data to support you assertion. That a 2012.5 S with 6k miles is worth slightly over 58k please provide this as I have multiple contradictory sources. Sales or selling data are both applicable but if I decided to sell or I have a friend with a Porsche does not add anything salient to this conversation.
To much advice is provided on this list with no basis is reality including what you have put forth. Sound bites do not represent data.
QUOTE=Archimedes;14500604]As have I, and buying and selling Porsches, and watching friends buy and sell Porsches, including 911s. I have a very nice 2014 C2S with about $125k build, 8k miles on it, and there's no way I would get more than $75k for it today. Don't care, because I never intend to sell it, but if I did, it's probably a $70,000 car today. On a good day. Of course, if you're lucky some rube might come along, but the reality is, these cars drop like rocks during the first 3-5 years of life. Brand new, 2.5 years ago, I only paid $96k for it (it was one year old from production - no miles). So it had depreciated about 25% in the first year alone, without even being driven.
Back on topic, I'm stunned at what some people on this thread are paying for insurance.[/QUOTE]

Yeah - maybe it's just because I'm young, but paying $2,400 a year with NO tickets or accidents, driving a car that isn't even worth $20k, seems very high after reading this thread.

I pay about $1600/year through Leland. That is based on an agreed value of $95,000, max coverages, genuine Porsche part replacement, etc etc. Mileage is 6,000/year. I think I can go unlimited miles for $1,800/year.

You unfortunately are part of a group that has lots of accidents. Also, keep in mind that Insurers are mostly concerned about personal injury and not property damage. So a driver of a Civic can put an Insurance company at as much risk as a Ferrari driver.

My last math class was a long time ago, but I don't think $120 per month equates to $2,400 a year...

If you think that is high, just get a speeding conviction or worse yet a chargeable accident on your record, and see what you pay. The worse case scenario is a young male who is a city resident, insuring a high performance car. This guy's rates will be high even if he is driving a Civic and has a pristine record. On the other end of the spectrum is someone who is 60+, lives in a rural area, and has his car listed as a pleasure vehicle.

That is nuts. I pay about that to insure five cars with max limits on everything. My two Porsches cost me less than $1,500 a year for both.

Whoa... This thread just saved me a ton of $$$. I was paying USAA $7126 a year for my 2018 C4S Cab, Macan S and a Jeeo wrangler. I Engaged Geico and the same premium is now $2023. SAVED $5100. Damn... couda had the yellow brakes!
In retrospect I am not happy with my stupidly for a 30 year relationship with USAA because I believed they were the best and too lazy to shop prices and deal with insurance agents.

Same with insurance. I'll probably look around every couple of years now, just to make sure.

There is no question that USAA is not the company it used to be. I have been with them for 48 years now, but I am going insurance shopping in the very near future. They recently gave me a $1,500 surcharge for 1 ticket (75 in a 65) and a relatively insignificant accident (hit a 10' long unmarked extension of a gas station island at about 2 mph). Petty certain that this was the first chargeable accident I've had in the past 48 years. But, what really ticked me off is that USAA never bothered to send me the policy language change when they started excluding non-timed DE events. Fortunately, so far I have never hit anything while unknowingly driving with no coverage at track events. Used to be like a big protective family, no matter where you were in the world. They were the only company around that did not exclude all life insurance war coverage during the war in Vietnam. I have been totally loyal to them ever since. I guess it's just another one-way street.
