Thanks, bkrantz!

I'm saving & will DIY.

I receive my 911 in a few weeks.
1st oil change is "free" but, I will do the 2nd one.

No way I’m waiting a year for first oil change. I’m thinking 1500 miles.

I'm not waiting either. Probably do the first one myself at 1.5K and will send an oil sample for analysis to establish a baseline. Will then take it to the dealership at 5.5K or 1 year, whichever comes first, for the free service. Only downside of that is that I'll have to rely on the dealership to capture a second oil sample for me.

There seems to be two types of Mobile 1 available:

1) Mobile 1 0W - 40
2) Mobile 1 0W - 40 FS

I think that the FS stands for fully synthetic, but is there a difference between the two products ?

Attached in the image below is what was found in my trunk delivered with the car.

Which one of the two products above are suitable for a 2017 Porsche 4s?

Interesting read...seems the FS is not certified for BMW?

Thumbs up Great post--what OBD2 reader will reset the oil change mx reminder?

I followed your procedure--very easy--great writeup!
Do you have a recommended OBD2 reader to reset the maintenance reminder? I am considering the Creader VII by Launch and the POR II by icarsoft.
My car is a 2017 911S cab (991.2) which may require a newer reader than older models.

Thank you and congrats on the excellent write-up!

You're welcome. I have the icarsoft POR II, and it works to reset the service indicators out of the box.

Bkrantz, thank you. This thread is awesome. AWE SOME!

I did the procedure yesterday, with the able assistance of my across-the-street neighbor. It went just as Bkrantz said it would.

Cyberbug, for reference, mine took exactly 9 quarts of Mobile 1, which left the oil level monitor a hair below "Full."

That's after letting the oil drain for 45 minutes to an hour, at which point the flow had stopped, but the drain hole was still dripping/weeping just a bit.

Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the oil filter without removing the intake duct, or without unclipping the fan cables from the intake duct?

I'm not sure why you would want to, to be honest. It's really easy to remove and put back in. It's a lot easier to get that stuff out of the way and it gives you an opportunity to clean/inspect it.

Take a look at this video at 2:57 -

the point where he uses a plastic trim removal tool to remove the cable connector from the air intake assembly. Seems risky that it will break.

I'll be doing mine again Friday so I'll pay better attention, in order I can give you a better answer. Honestly I just kinda wiggled it out, I didn't use a trim tool. If I recall it came out really easy.

If you don't want to replace the filter, you could always just drain and change the oil at 5K miles and have the dealer do the whole thing every 10K. Not as good as complete change obviously but would still be of some benefit.

I used a trim tool and the post of connectors got pretty beat up. Higher up in this long thread, someone suggested squeezing the flanges on the post to make it easier to get out, I wish I had remembered
post #64 by biff trout
"2) I have not removed the wire connectors yet but if the fasteners used to mount the connectors (and any other wire bundles) are the types that have wings that expand on the underside of the mounting bracket, a 3/32" or 1/4" socket pushed onto the end of the fastener from the back side of the mounting bracket will retract the wings allowing the fastener to be easily withdrawn from the mounting hole with little effort."

Should do the trick..
