I bought a CPO'd 2014 911S cabriolet about a month ago in very good shape with 22,000 miles for $84,000. It was loaded with a msrp of $138,000.

I wonder if a combination of the mandatory turbo motor and the constantly creeping higher prices of the 991.2 are supporting higher resale values on the 991.1's.

I guess I did fairly well on the one I bought. The insurance company offered me $59k and I told them I wanted $65k, If I can get $62k I guess I will be okay. I paid $71,500 about a year and a half ago, it had 38k miles. Spasm, MT, hardtop, chrono and PSE.

Looks like the majority of 911 owners are more concerned with creature features than the performance features based on what Edmunds and the insurance companies are valuing cars at. I always thought the 911 owners wanted the driving (not cruising) experience.

I thought there may be a correlation between current pricing and the news story I heard today (it was on Glenn Beck's radio show but his guests are usually rational and credible-not Glenn, lately)

"About 17% of all U.S. consumers are likely to default on a loan payment over the next year, according to a recent report from UBS. More interesting, perhaps, is who these defaulters are.

The UBS Evidence Lab reports that the group’s profile is “middle and upper income, younger, male, urban, and concentrated in the coastal regions.” The UBS researchers also found evidence that defaults on auto loans are likely to spread to more nonprime defaults on credit cards and personal loans."

Another price data point from my recent (Feb 2017) purchase along with my search and purchase experience. Hope this helps you find what you are looking for.

2013 C2S MT coupe with a build that sounds like its very close to what you seem to be looking for.
<4K miles
CPO through May 2019
$116K MSRP
$79K PP

The MTs are very hard to find and require one to move quickly when they pop up. There were several people waiting in line to buy the car behind me if I walked. I was lucky enough to be first in line.

I found it by using the Porsche USA Pre-Owned Car Locator. Using the detailed search function you can configure it to find exactly what you are looking for. You can save the search and have results e-mailed to you daily.

In my case the car popped up on the daiy Porsche USA Car Locator search several days before it appeared on the dealer's site. Upon inquiring about the car the sales person I spoke with claimed the car was not at the dealership and must have already been sold. Several hours later I received a call back explaining the car was in fact on site but had yet to be prepped for sale or posted to their web page.

It was explained to me that as soon as a car is traded the VIN and other relevant data is entered into the Porsche USA system and almost immediately posts to the site. So it seems the Porsche Used Car Locator is the best option to find it before others.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks, I will keep the search going. That one is close to what I had, I was expecting 2013 models to be around $60k, but it does have low mileage and some comfort features. I feel bad for being lazy and not moving my car out of the garage, we got 8 inches of rain in Raleigh over a couple of days. I feel like I ruined a great car.

Bummer about your car.

You can certainly find a CPO 2013 Carrera (non-S) MT for the low 60's.

I just did a quick check and there are only 3 MT CPO C2 coupes listed and sell prices range from $62 to $74K. Only 1 MT S and its a cab for $92K which is just a crazy price.

Starting to think I got extremely lucky to find a silver 991S manual 30 miles from home with SPASM, sport chrono, and PSE. Didn't realize manual models were so rare! Wish you the best of luck finding an awesome ride.

Cheers,
NF

Exact reason why I jumped when my 14 S coupe manual popped up for sale a few months back. Spec'd to basically what I would have ordered back in 2014.

Bingo.

That and there are less .2's hitting the market.

Good luck with your search! Every once in a while, a real gem will pop up. I found mine late last summer with only 13k miles and 3 years left on the CPO warranty.

Miles seem to matter most. Also the 997.2's and the 991.1 prices are starting to intermingle and they seem to be propping each other up. Its really bizarre to watch the market for these cars right now.

911's in general have taken off in terms of pricing in all era's. 993 and earlier are pretty much investment grade these days. That makes the 996 the bottom of the market and even there I am starting to see an uptick. Regardless of what people say about the 996 its a lot of car for the money if you can find one that's well sorted. IMS updated etc.

To me the 997.1 is turning into the lost generation because of the inability to service the IMS without a full engine breakdown. I know failures were far fewer and overblown but lets face it do you want to be one of those unlucky souls with a 20k engine rebuild tab? In many cases a well sorted 996 is starting price above a 997.1. We should all be thankful that the 996 is holding steady and gaining because it pushing everything newer up.

997.2 are super scarce because of the market meltdown in 2007-2008. Those have no IMS to speak of so their prices are holding accordingly. They also have PDK so the "automatics" are not driving the pricing in southerly direction in the way automatics drove prices down in previous gens. Sticks are still worth more from this era and get snapped up quick but the pdk cars not exactly laying around either.

In terms of capability between between anything 997.2 compared to 991.1 the performance deltas are measured in 10th's when comparing like models ranges. Its going to come down to driver skill more then the car, and lets face it very few of us have the talent level to eek out the 10ths that separate the two. Even in a strait line PDK 997.2 vs PDK 991.1 keeps the playing field level.

991.1's seem to have their pricing holding steady because they are last naturally aspirated Porsches, will that carry in the way the 993's did as the last of the air cooled? Too early to tell, seeing the 16's and 17's start to fight each other on price seems to be a good sign. Its sort of how the 993 vs 996 battle started back in the day.

The 991.2's because of the engine change represent a noticeable performance gain of these two prior generation and the pricing seems to be stratospherically higher. The 991.2 S & GTS models are touching 997.1 Turbo territory (in terms of performance) which is crazy when you think that only 10 years separate them.

Finally the Used 991.1 Turbo versus the new 991.2 S and GTS are leaving consumers to chose do I want more warranty or do I want to get to 60 1 second faster or jail speeds 2 seconds faster. Bottom line its a great time to own a 911.

Just speaking of the C4 & C4S coupe variants
996 seem to start in the mid 20's and scoot up into the mid 30's.
997.1 pickup in the mid 30's and hover into the upper 40's
997.2 pickup in the low 50's and go north into the upper 60's.
991.1 pickup in the mid to upper 60's and hit the 100's if its super low miles and only a year or two old.

Right now if I had to re-buy my 991.1 I would struggle to find one at the price I found mine at.

Another data point for you. Picked up 2013 991.1 white/espresso C2S, PDK, Sport Chrono, sport plus seat, no sunroof, Burmester stereo, 26k miles on the clock for $70. No bells and whistles other than the PDK definitely can be found just have to be patient and wait.

This one was meant for me, first time I saw it I didn't jump on it quick enough. Buyer's trade-in fell through so it got relisted again. This time I did not hesitate.
