Default I'm too old and fat for this...

Hey fellas;

I am sick of cleaning brake dust off every 3 miles on my .1GTS...any recommendation on what brake pads might produce a humane amount of dust?

cheers

Use Armor All wheel protectant after each wash. It really works.

There are pads which produce very little brake dust. So why doesn't Porsche use them? I suppose that like me, Porsche hasn't been able to find a brake pad that provides excellent stopping and produces no brake dust. In my case I just don't obsess about having some brake dust on my wheels.

Having owned numerous German cars throughout the years the collected wisdom to answer this question goes like this...

North American drivers don't want to do something silly like bed in the pads and rotors on their cars.
So manufacturers tell them to drive conservatively for several hundred miles.
Pads have to be soft to deal with this.
Result is good initial bite and good braking action for the north american driver but loads of brake dust. Also squeal. They try to alleviate squeal with a champhered leading edge of the pad.

This upsets enthusiasts like those found here.

Exactly. It's a little like trying to find tires with great grip that also last 50,000 miles. You have to pick your priority.

After a year of ownership I have started letting my car have a little dirt on it now and then. Works for me!
