If you were married to a super model would you leave her alone? I hope not. If you have a Porsche you have a super model so exercise her.

Sill no solution from Porsche dealer for ticking engine
Sorry guys for lack of updates.
Ok, the following are updates since my post in May.

May 2017: Oil changed to 5w40 from 0w40
Result: initially seemed to have fixed it as I didn't hear the noise for solid 2 months but the noise came back - perhaps it was more frequent starting and driving during the summer may have masked the problem.

Oct.2017: Took out engine, replaced all tappets on passenger side, 10 days in service
Result: Same noise after 2 weeks - duration for 20 minutes after the cold start.

Waiting for service schedule in Jan 2018 - will leave with service for at least 4 weeks.

I had an Indie tell me a persistent ticking was a tappet until the rod broke in #1 and went thru the case on my 99 996. Of course that was an M96 motor and it had 90K miles.

After tracking 9A1 motors in 2 different cars for 3 years I feel like these motors are indestructible but then again I've never heard anything like what you describe.

Sorry for you. This is NOT good news. You should start making yourself knowledgeable about your State's Lemon Laws. and proceed in that direction. Good luck.

That's bad news for everyone, I hope they correct the problem and send you on your way. Document all details and try to stay positive.

Hello Lc991.2
has a solution already been found for the problem of ticking noise?
I myself still have the same problem would possibly want to use Millers oil with Nano technique.
this would apparently give better lubrication to the lifters

Just in the last two weeks this has appeared in my Carrera T. I had a 1995 993 which would very rarely (like once a year) tick on startup after sitting several days so I’m familiar with the sound. All three times it has happened on the new car it lasted about 5m until oil tem ~120. The funny thing is that two of the times it happened it had only sat overnight. Weird.

cheers!

Same here! If I let my T sit for a few days it will tick for a few min then go away after warm up. I’d prefer the noise to burning oil to be honest. My 997.2 never made a peep burned oil like crazy.

I gave it a serious italian tuneup today - over an hour above 4K...will be interesting to see how it responds....

Oh, and if you heard an annoyingly loud 911 on I-10, US-36, or US 290 in Houston today...

sorry?

Hi there I have a 2019 Carrera T and have also heard the ticking noise on startup. Goes away after a couple minutes of driving. Usually it’s very quiet and can barely hear it but once it was quite loud that my wife asked me what’s that sound?? Mostly it’s quiet and can barely hear it on startup

I have had 5 Porsche's, the latest being a 2018 Carrera T with 273 miles on it while typing this. All 5 of my Porsches have exhibited ticking at various times during start up. The other day I started the T and it was quite loud immediately when the engine fired up but it went away in seconds.

Having said this, aren't the direct injectors rather ticky sounding too? Could this be what some are hearing?
