I am not going with the new 991.2

Between the tight European emissions standards and the Chinese tax code Porsche is being influenced by outside political forces. Other than the exhaust sound I see no downside to their solution.
My 3.4 was a real dog below 4000 rpm and they solved for that in a big way. Torque up.. check, Horsepower up... check. Look at the Nurburgring lap times and the dramatic difference between 99.1 and the 991.2. It's huge.
Fabspeed offers a solution if the sound is really that objectionable, As an all around great GT Car the 2017 911S is demonstrably better to me.

I had a new 2013 base car with MT and it was a good fun car. To build brand loyalty Hoffman Porsche invited me to several Track Days at Lime Rock Park where all the Porsche cars were available for us to drive at speed. After trying the line up I concluded that the 911S was best for me.
My 2017 911S with Sport Package and PDK arrives in three weeks and I fully expect it to blow the doors off the 991.1. Porsche says the best 911 is the newest 911. They should know.

Cant say that about the 991.1 or 991.2 in the coming years.

There was a time when 993 cars were priced a bit cheaper.

I will share a funny story. I was laying around listening to the 991.2 PSE from the configurator on my computer (I have one on order BTW). Wife comes out of the shower and says what is that noise?....it sounds like a hair dryer that is about to kick it. LMAO. She is used to my 981 BS w/PSE NA engine. lol. She will not get in my 981 unless PSE is on......not kiddin.
Love her.

There is no measurable difference between the loudness (dB) between the PSE in the GTS or C2S at whatever RPM or RPM band the measurement was taken. How the reading was obtained does make a difference and there may in fact be significant differences in sound pressure readings (loudness) under different conditions (windows open/closed, high rpm, etc.). All data from all sources must be evaluated to assess it's actual value. The internet forum is a particularly dubious source. The mid 80s is not particularly loud. Loud begins in the 90s and ear piercing is above 100dB. Normal conversation is in the low 70s.

The pro's of moving to the new platform simply outweighed the con's of pissing off the customer base and losing some of the 911 soul.
I firmly believe that if Porsche could continue with the previous NA platform, they would. But times are changing and they need to evolve like the rest of the manufacturers.
A month ago I had a chance to drive the new 488. Nice car and definitely quicker than the previous 458 but you couldn't help but feel like this was a move Ferrari was forced into and not one they were excited to make on their own. I feel Porsche is going through the same thing with the move to the 3.0 platform.
