Default Brake Pad change...wait for light?

Hi All,

My C2S has 33k miles, no brake work to date. Brakes have noticeable squeaks. Was wondering if most people are waiting for a warning from the car before changing? Or just changing pads at a certain mileage?

I don't track my car & don't drive her that hard. Also, for the first brake job, do people still "turn" rotors? Or is this something past it's time?

I'm still debating about investing in a low profile jack with those jack point stands for $300....or just taking to my local mechanic...

I'm still a little Leary of placing the car on 4 stands...

The dealership told me I would need to replace my brakes but that I could wait for the light to come on and even then they would be OK for another 1000 miles. I'm waiting for the light.

Of course when the light goes on and you take it in, they'll say "oh the rotors are no longer salvageable because the light went on. More monies please."
