Default 2012 Carrera S Cab

Hello everyone,

I am hoping I can get some advice from all of the Porsche enthusiasts in regards with my dilemma. I have been in the market for Carrera S, and a few days ago, I saw this 2012 White Carrera S Cab in CARMAX. My concern, is buying a supercar in CarMax okay? From my understanding, the car has 1 owner (local owner from where I live), almost 48k miles; exterior looks good with minor scratches. Keyless entry, Sports Chrono Package, Heated/Vented Seats, PDK, 18-way seats. Do you think the mileage is too much? Price is $62998. The last question is, does Porsche dealer perform PPI or do I need to go to a specialist shop to have it done? Any advice, tip, opinions are appreciated. Thank you in advance to all.

I don't see that car at CarMax anymore. I vaguely remember seeing it, so it must have been sold or someone put a hold. You can search this forum regarding CarMax experiences. I got the impression that do a good job in checking the cars and their extended warranties allow repairs at Porsche dealerships.

I would suggest you read the sticky "Hot for Sale Pick of the week 991.1" for an overview of what prices are in the used market.

Regarding PPI, some dealers do, some don't. I believe most people find an independent service shop to do that

Thanks for replying Visitador. I am holding the car at the moment. One of the CARMAX consultant bought his Porsche @ CARMAX and he said Porsche dealer do accept the MAXCARE warranty (he has used it multiple times). I called an independent shop and asking for $2500 and the local Porsche dealer is asking $500.

You may be the first person ever to describe a Carrera S as a "supercar".

I suggest asking what they cover at PPI and making sure that's what you want.

My impression is that indy's are typically more thorough, and can offer more of an 'opinion' on the car. I had my PPI done at a dealer and they refused to say much about the car beyond just looking at the basics, e.g. DME over-rev report, etc, for example they refused to comment on the paint, whereas the indy I spoke to said they would check things like paint using a paintmeter, etc

I bought my first 911 at CarMax. It was a good experience. I purchased the extended warranty and used it a few times at the local Porsche dealership with no issues. Be sure to check Carfax.

Thanks Alz and Mannyl. Indy definitely is more thorough. They said they will need the car for a couple of days. Carfax is clean, 1 owner.

This, but it could be a super car.

60K miles is not an issue if there are detailed maintenance records from Porsche and/or independents. Do a third party PPI.

People sell them cars because they're easy to work with, generally work closer on margins (ie offer more on trades), and have a broad inventory. I almost sold them a Boxster S once.
