2013 991S2 maintenance
Just signed up here and have been reading a lot of posts. Nice forum.
Question: Looking to buy a 2013 991S with only 4,000 miles. This is a 4 year-old car that has only seen two oil changes. It has been sitting indoors in dry climate mostly. Was started every once in a while to move it out of the way for whatever reason. I looked at the Maintenance Checklist from Porsche and even though none of the maintenance is required because of mileage, it reads that some items need maintenance because of age, like oil, spark plugs, drive belt, brake fluid, etc. So even though the car has barely 4,000 miles do I really need to replace the plugs because 4 years have passed? This is what I found in a checklist: "Replace spark plugs: every 40,000 miles / 60,000 km or 4 years"

I will be a first time owner.
Many thanks, Chase

Yes you need the spark plugs, engine filter, and in-cabin air filter changed in addition to the oil. Probably also need a brake fluid flush. These items are to be done on a time basis if the mileage is not reached. If you're going to spend the money to purchase the car may as well take care of it as Porsche recommends. My $.02 though I suspect you'd be fine running the plugs for another 4 years if you keep the mileage low.

Based on years it's due for the 4 year / 40k mile service. 40,000 mile service around my area (the Bay) runs about $1300, so it isn't cheap. If you're going "by the book" this is the service it needs though.

This is you first potential 911 ownership experience. Set yourself up for it to be the best experience possible.
Negotiate the price (full or partial) of the 40K service into your value proposition with the seller. Ideally, you want the maintenance schedule zeroed out to begin your tenure.
Don't start your first Porsche ownership experience based on the premise of making compromises and finding ways to cut corners.

If you're buying from a dealer I doubt getting them to do the scheduled maintenance will be much if any issue in the negotiation.

Private. I have a good eye at least for abuse or bad signs. The seller is somewhat of a collector. Just likes American cars more. He sounds very confident about its state, which he says is showroom condition. I still have to take a look. Have a bit of traveling to do before seeing it. It will be quite a hurdle to get an expert to look it over. I'm not familiar with the area and i would have to stay the night. But if your are dropping 80k, it's worth the trouble, I know. Some instinct, a good cosmetic look over, a drive, and a good vibe from the seller may be good enough in this case.

Last time I bought use was my 1968 VW bug. Always wanted it to grow up to be a 911. I've done some reading and from what I gather, the 991S (2013 in my case) has no known problems outside of an occasional rattle or electrical problem if any. (I know all about the IMS bearing and cylinder issure on some other water cooled varieties.) Anything I should know. The owner never took it in for any recalls. I think i need to get a carfax on it. I have the vin. I'm sure there's a site i could plug in the vin.
