Greetings. I had Safelite repair a couple of windshield chips and they damaged my UV tint. They are going to reimburse me the cost of the tint ($300). Quotes on their website for windshield replacement are $315-$550 depending on the windshield tint and type of antenna.

I am wondering if they use OEM glass. I read older post here that noted Porsche dealers contract their windshield work out (often to Safelite) and a few years ago there was not any aftermarket glass available. All glass was OEM which is what I want. Anyone know if the only glass still available is OEM?

I had a bad experience with a BMW using non oem glass. Learned the hard way to always use oem glass.

++++++1. OEM only, and be sure the installer has done a Porsche before. Antennae (at least 2) and the appropriate amount of adhesive are critical to a good, well fitting replacement. AMHIK.

I recently had my windshield and rear window replaced due to a rubber seal defect. The windows were replaced under warranty and OEM glass was used. The work is contracted out by an experienced firm. I concur, OEM glass s/b used.

most porsche windshields are 2000$ and I didnt know anybody had aftmkt glass, it sounds strange. Are you sure they looked up the right car. I would tell them they have to get a oem

Had front windshield replaced on my E550. Ins wanted to use safelite. I said only OEM MB would do, and the paid for OEM. It was ordered by the dealer and replaced by a a third party at the dealership. Had to pay extra for the MB decal. Do not accept non OEM glass.

OEM glass only please. Long ago I had a glass shop replaced a windshield on my Acura (about 19 years ago) which led to a serious leak problem that we had to get rid of the vehicle. Lesson learned and have been insisted on using OEM only glasses afterwards for many other vehicles with needed windshield replaces, never had problem again.

Same here, also with a BMW. The gaskets were terribly uneven and clumsy looking. Luckily I was selling the car, so I didn't have to live with it long. But, my take away was that there is a reason they are so much cheaper than OEM. You get what you pay for.

often only OEM is available for Porsche. Use it with a reliable installer. Think about getting a tear off. Porsche windshields very vulmerable.

What is a tear off? Can you point me in the direction of more info?

Agree on wanting OEM. FWIW - $2K is a lot higher than a GT3 windshield. Maybe it's cheaper than regular 911 because of all the electronics you guys have.

I had to replace a Cayenne windshield a few years back (out of my own pocket, no insurance coverage....or I didn't want to make a claim, cant remember now). Quotes were all over the place. Thousands apart. The cheap quotes are of course for Chinese copies.

In the end I went for the OEM manufacturer (which I think from memory was Pilkington) and it worked perfectly with a really good installer who assured me it was the exact same glass used in the factory except it didn't have a Porsche part number stamped on it. It worked out for me and I saved hundreds on not getting Porsche OEM glass.

Was at high end body shop to have my Bimmer repaired. He was in the process of replacing a windshield on a CGT. Said it costs $10K to do because you have to remove the dashboard.

IIRC someone of the 991 GT3 board mentioned that even an OEM windshield costs around $650. Which isn't too bad imho.
