Default Getting PSE! Anything I need to know?

Hi all. After one year with my 991.1 c2, I'm finally getting PSE installed by a dealer. Any tips or things to ask about? I made sure to order the PSE kit and new set of buttons. Anything else? Problems to look for after? Questions to ask?

Thanks all!

Make sure they install the new exhaust tips too!

Don't forget this routine .... Enter car, start car, and push the PSE or Sport button. Sport will also activate PSE. You'll love it.

Good choice. Installed after purchase & my dealer install price was on high side, but zero regrets. Best thing I've done for my 991.1 c2. Raised the enjoyment level of my c2 to a new high. Enjoy.

Agreed....did the same on my CPO that didn't have it when I got it....made a great car a really great car!!! Like getting a new car all over again after adding PSE. Would never get one without it going forward if purchased new, and would definitely add it again if I got another CPO spec'd as I like that was just missing PSE.

If you drive the speed limit in your neighborhood, EVERYONE will think you are speeding. It happens.....so what.

Just turned 10,000 miles on my C4S, and had the first annual checkup. Wow, the sound gets even better. I never drive in the quite mode, you won't either. If it doesn't completely grab you by the ears a first, its going to in short order. And the down shifts! If you have a sunroof the dealer will do some sort of reprogram for the switches. Did I mention the downshifts?

I suggest that you ask the dealer for all the old parts back. You may be able to make a few $ selling them on ebay.

My only advice is to get quotes from a number of dealers, as the pricing on this varies dramatically. When I added PSE to my C2S, the difference between the highest and lowest dealer quote I got was $2,100. Some dealers will try to bend you over on this mod, best to make sure you price check them.

Awesome! Thanks everyone

@bittrl1000 - great suggestion. Will do.

@Archimedes - yeah, I did make sure it was ok. Price of the equipment was slightly better than Suncoast for the parts. Hourly labor rate is expensive, but # of hours seemed reasonable given it is a 3.4L which needs more work than the 3.8 for install.

Can't wait! Will let everyone know about my experience!

If you are **** about your car (and who isn't on here ) then make sure they add the button in the position you want.

I believe the factory default position is button #2 on the right hand side. You may currently have another button in that location (in my case I had the start/stop button in position #2).....get them to move things around as you want it. The car needs re-programmed anyway so its not a big deal for them.

The new exhaust needs to burn-in. Don't freak out about the smell. It's the normal fast car smell.

Sorry I am not too familiar with 991 system but why stock PSE? Why not just get AWE or Fabspeed? They sounds amazing.

Lots of reasons. Mostly personal choice. For me:

Warranty
Fit & finish
No drone
Switchable
Resale
No power & torque loss

Thank you for the kind words! The 991 has a lot of potential, and I am proud to say we have tapped into that potential with great success

LexVan the factory PSE is a great system, although for some it is lacking in the performance and sound they are looking for. For those people (and who knows perhaps yourself as well in the future), i'd like to address some of your concerns regarding going with a Fabspeed system.

Warranty: In the US you are protected under the Magnusson Moss Act stating that with aftermarket additions/replacements/upgrades the dealer has to conclusively prove that it caused the failure of the warrantied item. For instance if your water pump fails and you have an exhaust upgrade, they cannot void your warranty as it is completely unrelated. We actually have Porsche dealerships throughout the country that sell, install, and warranty our products. A lot of this trust stems from we stand behind our products with a Limited Lifetime warranty to the original owner that covers their repair/replacement from any issue stemming from our workmanship.

Fit/Finish: One of the most important parts of our R&D process of a new product is ensuring accurate fitment on every product leaving our facility. In order to accomplish this, we first map out the interference points of the factory exhaust product(s) electronically via our Romo Arm and CAD programming. We then design and build our components within those interference points to ensure an accurate, bolt-in factory replacement with no modifications necessary. After our "golden piece" is confirmed as perfect, we build a sturdy fixture around that piece and keep it forever. That way every duplicate product we make is test fitted in that fixture against that golden piece. Once confirmed in the fixture, it is sent over to our polishing room where we hand-polish our products to a mirror finish. You can see the difference between the factory PSE and full Fabspeed Valvetronic Exhaust System below.

No Drone: One of the most subjective topics, but we have yet to have any complaints of drone with our 991 X-Pipe, Maxflo Mufflers, and combination of both (Valvetronic Exhaust system). Even our full packages with Sport Headers I have had seat time in personally with a few clients of mine, and with valves closed the system is very comfortable at cruising speeds. For those especially sensitive to cabin noise, our X-Pipe (Valvetronic for PSE) with the factory side mufflers is superb on throttle and near indistinguishable from factory with valves closed at cruising speed.

Switchable: We offer a full Valvetronic Exhaust System for those vehicles that do not come with PSE, or a Valvetonic X-Pipe for those with PSE that would like to gain/maintain the switchable mild to wild option on their vehicles with more power/sound than what is available from factory.

Resale: Our systems are made of the finest T304L Stainless Steel that we expect to outlast the life of the car in the event you sell the vehicle. In specializing in Porsche sound and performance for near 25 years, Fabspeed is well-known and respected across the Porsche community. In the event you sell the car there would be little effect on the resale value, if not a little bit more enticing to the buyer who wants a valvetronic option on the car anyway haha.

No Power/Torque Loss: There is a fine line of backpressure in exhaust system that you can play around with to improve power overall, maximize power in some areas while not gaining as much in others, etc. This is a science we have been striving to perfect over many years, and are proud to say we very good at manipulating it to meet our goals on various products. There is no loss in power/torque with our valvetronic 991 products, in fact the gains over the factory PSE in the graph below show you how much potential there is on top of it with our Valvetronic Exhaust System...from the moment you hit the gas to redline the 991 has massive potential.

Making an educated decision is key to maximizing your driving experience, and I post this information to provide a means to do so for those interested in pursuing an option other than the factory PSE.

For those interested in any of our products or have questions on the information above, please feel free to PM, email, or call me at your convenience and I would be happy to chat with you and ensure you are set up with the proper product (or combination of products) to meet your goals.
