Default 991.2 PDK Transmission fault at 180 miles. . .hope its just a software glitch

As I was driving with my wife Saturday evening my brand new 991.2 C4 showed a "Tansm. fault Poss. no R gear Possible to drive on" warning. We had been driving about 10 minutes, and at normal speeds. The engine wouldn't rev much, and it did not have 2nd or 4th gear. 3rd and 5th worked, I did not check about Reverse. I was on a highway at the time and was able to maintain speed. Maybe it went into limp mode, certainly couldn't accelerate much.

We exited at the next exit and pulled into a parking lot. Turned the car off, and restarted. No problems car worked normally.

I emailed my sales guy since the car had only 180 miles on it and he brought in a service rep - neither had heard of something like this.

I drove 100+ miles yesterday, for those in the LA area I drove up to Moorpark, then from the 101 to PCH via Las Virgenes, then back up Kanan to Mulholland and took that back to the 101. So a long loop with lots of turns and elevation changes. Car worked fine.

I hope its a one time thing, maybe a software glitch. I did find a few posts with similar stories but not any with a 991.2 - with new cars it seems like it happens only once. With a few older cars they need a new PDK.

Has anyone had this happen to them in a 991.2? I will likely bring the car in and have it checked, maybe update software if needed. Based on the posts I've found doesn't seem like the codes will show anything. I'm not overly worried, just wondering if there is something I can point the dealership to to save time. I'm leaning towards just drive it and see if it happens again, if not just ask them to check the software for upgrades next time I'm there (probably to put plates on).

I haven't had that issue (MT here), but I did have my PCM go berserk one time only. I have no idea what happened and it seems to be fine now.

Well if you ever want to have a PDK problem you want to have it right off the bat.

The folks who posted up PDK issues usually had them in the first few miles of ownership and I believe most ended up having the PDK replaced.

Good luck and post up what they find.

I had the same message the first time I drove the .2 demo at my dealership last Spring. Not a very good way to make a first impression. It popped up while getting on the freeway on ramp, so I really had no alternative but to go to the next exit and turn around then limp back. The SA didn't seem overly concerned and it ended up being a software gremlin. It was reminiscent of some rogue messages that I used to get in my Cayenne that scared the crap out of me but ended up being nothing. I wouldn't worry too much.

I would at least have them officially look at it and get the issue on the record.

My sport suspension created a similar weird fault message shortly after the first time I ever hit the button, less than 150 miles on it at that time. A base 991.2. After I stopped and restarted all was fine and it's never happened again.

Low battery can sometimes throw off odd fault codes.

Well, the service dept did find an error code and are following a protocol they say comes from Corporate based on the code.

Step 1: replace the control unit (this was done, but the calibration test failed at the very end so indicates a different issue)

Step 2: replace valve body (they are doing this now)

Step 3: If this doesn't solve the issue the next step is a new pdk transmission.

I only had the 1 issue and drove another 300 miles afterwards so I'm surprised it is showing what sounds like is a real error. That said, its good to have it addressed early.

The dealership is doing ok thus far. . .this is my 3rd car in recent years from them so I would expect that.

I'll post what happens.

EDIT: They redid the Step 1 calibration and it checked out, drove it 50 miles no issues. So I will pick up the car tomorrow. No need to go to Step 2 right now.

I had almost the same problem when I first got my 991.2

Took it back to the dealer and they told me that they would have to reprogram the car again. After a couple of hours, I got my car back and haven't had the same problem ever since. They told me that they didn't change any controllers and that it was software/programing related.
