I agree. Just saying that for the cost of a leather steering column, you'd think they could have lined thing sup better. Maybe you can get a letter covered plug made. They must need access for some reason. Sloppy work.

At 1:56 of this video, you can see a similar cut out in the leather, so I guess that is just the way Porsche finishes that part off. Note that in this car, although not deviated stitching, the line up is much better:

Ah...this would make sense for the purpose of the holes. Now it's a matter of how Porsche finished them off. What were they thinking?

Could the dealer have done this??

Seems very amateurish on Porsche's part.
Yes! The dealer cut holes in the leather and left them!

Ugh.

He's referring to the top of the steering column.

The holes are there on every 911. You only notice it on cars with full leather and leather covered steering columns. Yes, they do no look good but that is how they come from the factory. Not the first time I've seen it. They are (as your salesman said) for disassembly of the steering column. They pop up and separate in the middle. I agree that there should be a leather plug of some sort.

No, it is simple clips that interlock. There are no plugs.

I don't think it is an error by the dealer (hole on the side), the car with the red interior I posted has the exact same cutout. I agree it doesn't look very good. Luckily it's not very visible.

I too have seen other 991's with that little hole cut out. I have the leather one in my car but no hole. Strange how it's very inconsistent

My SA has ordered a new Leather Steering Column with special focus on the holes. The holes will be there, but I guess they'll just cut it out more strait.

Porsche is way out of order on this IMO. For Porsche and $160G car you would expect attention to detail. Yet, they deliver cars with cutout holes in the leather for which I even paid extra to get.

It's not as if this is high tech stuff like PDCC or Rear Wheel Steering. I just expect holes in leather material to be finished with stitching or covered -- not too much to ask for...especially considering the price of the car. I wouldn't even expect to see this in a Chevy.

It'll take ~60 days to deliver. So, we'll see. At least the stitching should line up this time.

You have to wonder if Porsche let workmanship like this get by, what about the stuff you can't see?

I wouldn't be too worried about that. If you read through the threads on this forum I think you'll find about 98% of them are enthusiasts asking questions about options, models, price negotiation and buying advise. Very few are owners complaining about their cars. JD Power, Consumers Reports and others have all ranked the 911 near the top of the reliability charts.

Hopefully this small trim problem will be fixed soon and will be a distant memory.

I have no holes in my leather in that location. I checked today after reading this thread.

Don't ever think about purchasing a Ferrari if that concerns you.

That's one part I regret not getting wrapped by leather, but I agree with OP that's not acceptable. I will be visiting my dealer this upcoming week, see if I can find another car that has the same option and how it's done.
