Default dyi servicing

I'm ordering a 991.2 soon, my first 911. I've always done my own maintenance and plan on getting a mid-rise scissor lift for this auto. I will log everything and keep all receipts. Any issues with Porsche if warranty work is needed?

Welcome to Porsche and Rennlist.

I've always performed my own minor and major 911 service requirements; nearly 8 years worth on both 997.2's and 991's. Never an issue when I needed to have warranty work done. What you'll discover quite quickly is these cars are near bullet proof. Most reliable vehicles I've owned. Good luck with your purchase, and welcome to the club. No secret handshake required but a glance/smile or a wave down the road is always appreciated.

keep in mind porsche will have to check the car periodically to maintain the warrantee. Talk to your dealer first.

I agree with LexVan, I've never heard of such a thing. I've done most of my maintenance on many cars under warranty with never a question when I'd show up near the end of the warranty to get a few things fixed up. If a dealer has told someone that, I'd expect it was just in their own self-interest to make some service money.

I laugh when someones says this.

Now the better statement to say is that if you break your car during your DIY servicing your warranty may be in question..... so know your own DIY comfort level.

In servicing the 991.1 I've found it pretty straight forward. I wonder how the turbos and associated piping has reduced the room needed to change spark plugs.

Here's the FTC statement on this if it helps: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/article...ne-maintenance. Here's the pertinent section, and in this case the "someone" is you:
...it's illegal for a dealer to deny your warranty coverage simply because you had routine maintenance or repairs performed by someone else.

Just document it well, and include photos. And get an annual PCM readout from the dealer from their PIWIS to make sure no issues and to get the latest software updates - this might cost you $100 a year.

I should also mention that I sometimes use an indie shop owned by two guys, one of whom was a certified Porsche Tech, and they have the latest PIWIS. That is legitimate too, if you maintain the records.

Yes, these comments and others about dealer warranty obligations are true. But, when something minor (or major) goes wrong after the warranty months or miles are up, a history of service at a dealer MIGHT induce a bit of good will, and advocacy with PCNA.

Me too! (although I ordered the car last year and expect delivery in March)

Meanwhile I have a new house and near dream garage, and have been shopping for mid-rise lifts. What lifts are you considering?

As for maintenance, routine or otherwise, I migrated from doing all work myself (914 and 944) to a mix on my 964 (routine and minor stuff myself, and pesky diagnosis problems at the dealer or independent shop), to having the dealer do the scheduled maintenance while I did more frequent oil changes and "fun" things like brake jobs (987).

Absolutely Untrue.

I just changed the oil on my .1 C2S at 1k miles. Always done my own wrenching. Nice getting to know your machine. Took it to the local dealer and they reset my oil service indicator at no charge. There is a ton of great info here from many folks who in some cases know more than the dealers. Most are more than happy to help. " LexVan" being a good example. Many DYI videos here also.

I was looking at the Atlas Kwik Bay but now I'm leaning towards a 4 post BendPak. My build is now an order with a ETA of April. It's a base Carrera in Night Blue Metallic. I can't believe she said yes.
