Default Sunroof and resale

So what's the consensus here on the glass sunroof? I've searched and I was curious about the latest thinking. I'm ambivalent about it as a feature - I'd take the car either way and see the pros and cons: money, weight and potential creaks vs open cabin feel and resale. My car will be jet black metallic, so the looks are about the same. I'd just as soon save the 2 grand, but will it make enough difference on eventual resale that not putting it in my build is a false economy?

Don't worry about resale. Get what you like and want

On a personal note, I went with a glass sunroof - it looks fantastic and gives you choice. The weight is a complete non-issue

Purely on a resale basis, on average, having no sunroof is a negative. This is a fact. Ask any dealer.

Ok, a GTS with a manual and performance options can pull off no sunroof. But like I said, for the average 911 buyer, sunroof is a must have.

On a black car it blends in nicely. I'm glad I have one.

I've had a sunroof on many cars I have owned - hardly used them on any of those cars. Did not get sunroof on my P-car, and glad I did not after hearing about all the creaks from them. Resale - buy what you want, not what others want - if you think you are going to make a killing on selling the car because it has a sunroof, think again. I'd spend the $2K on more useful mods like AccesPort or DSC.

I thought you ordered yours already? Isn't it locked yet?

In any case, sunroofs...

I never use 'em. A fixed roof can't squeak or rattle. Or leak. It doesn't require periodic maintenance.

Yes, every one you see on a lot and most ordered have sunroofs. So, that makes fixed-roof coupes rare.

If you're going to flip in a year or two, get a sunroof so that it will conform to everyone's expectations.

I am taking delivery of a 991.1 GTS soon and it has no sunroof. I have always had sunroofs in my 911s but this time found a car without. I was waffling back and forth about it but decided to do it for the some of the reasons worf928 suggests above. I never really used my roofs so hopefully won't miss it. Plus it does make the car a bit more unique. And I did get all the performance options (including PDCC with sport chassis which I understand to be a bit controversial) but PDK (must have for me). Get what you want, not what the next guys thinks he wants. Good luck.

I agree, I have the standard sunroof and enjoy it. when it comes to resale there are so many factors that you really cant predict, but expensive options are more of a buyers preference then trade-in leverage. if you look at the blue/black book on used cars 10 years down the road a $2000 option may only get you another $200-300 in a trade.

NADA used 991 values show only three options affecting resale. PDK and Bose add value and manual seats deduct value. So a sunroof and all the other options are just a personal choice.

On average ..

Cars with no sunroofs sit unsold longer. That's the issue. Not what you get back on the option return or what affects value from KBB or whatever.

Longer the car sits, the less $$$ it returns.

Same with Sport Chrono. Cars without it are a harder sell.

Make for a tougher sale

Base stereo
4 way seats
No Sport Chrono
No sunroof
Blue interior

For what it's worth. I've seen lots of used cars. Later!

Order locks march 3rd so plenty of time to ruminate. And spend money.

I'd like to think I'll keep this car for a while. I can't seem to keep a car longer than a year. It's a sickness. Unlike the gt4 I expect aggressive depreciation so that should help cool my jets.

I think I like the sunroof. Not sure. Just don't think I like it enough to spend 2 grand on it. If it was going to meaningfully affect resale that might push me over.

Seems to make sense that no sunroof will slow resale but not necessarily lower value. Of course, like STG posted - the longer it sits, the lower the value. Who knows. Thanks all for the insight so far.

Sunroof tilted up = no window buffeting noise too

I would argue on average a car with a sunroof will return $2K more at resale than one without.

Longer it takes to sell, the less it returns.

However, 20 years from now, the Sunroof Delete option may make the car MORE valuable.

Spend $80 on the AWE wind diffuser and pocket $1920. I can't justify spending $2k on an option that one never uses, myself included. Can't believe resale will suffer much more than $2k for its absence.

Obviously a personal preference, but I would not have a car without a sunroof. I use mine virtually every drive and I never close the sunshade. Get what you want, why chose for what's good for the next guy?

I have no leaks or rattles. That would be tough if these could not be resolved but I do not think this has been a frequent issue (i.e., unrsesolvable) for the feature.
